Bowen reveals England dream

|

Jarrod Bowen admits it would be his dream to play for England amid his sparkling Hammers form.

The winger has been in incredible form for the Hammers throughout the campaign and has added goals to his game in a way that has seen him move to the next level.

Bowen has scored six goals and laid on 10 assists this season already, and was again on the scoresheet at the weekend as the Hammers beat Leeds 2-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

As a result, the ex-Hull man has been widely tipped for an England call-up under Gareth Southgate and, with the 2022 World Cup looming this winter, he has admitted that he would love to pull on the shirt for his country.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, he said: “I think this season was about progression and getting the call up for England is the ultimate dream.

“That is out of my hands, my job is to deliver on the pitch and show what I am about. That is all I can do, keep putting in the performances and the end product.

“If it happens then it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. I can only control what I am doing. It is not on my mind, the more you think about these situations which are not in your control, the more it plays on your mind and affects you.”

Bowen is perhaps unusual in the sense that he has never actually played for England at any level, so making his senior debut would mean making his first appearance for any England team.
