It seems that Jarrod Bowen has paid the price for West Ham’s poor start to the season by losing his place in the England squad.
The Hammers winger was used as a substitute for Harry Kane during Lee Carsley’s first two games as manager of the Three Lions and appeared set for another call-up.
However, a combination of West Ham’s lackluster form and an embarrassment of riches with the return of Cole Palmer and Phil Foden has meant that Bowen has missed out.
This news will come as a bitter blow to the Hammers captain, but it is perhaps no great surprise. He is one of several West Ham stars playing well below their best this season as the squad adjusts to Julen Lopetegui’s tactics.
I expect to see a highly motivated Bowen today against Ipswich in an effort to regain some form. However, the truth is that even if he were playing well, the competition for England places is fierce.
If there is one silver lining, it could be that the Irons forward will receive a much-needed rest after a relentless 14 months of solid football.
I think it’s more to do with England’s abundance of riches, in attack, and the new England manager trying new options
No chance of getting injured while on international duty then. Great, it’s only a friendly.
Englands loss, West Hams gain.
Bowen has been playing OK, but it seems like he has a lot going on in his life at this time, and a break may be in his best interests.
COYI!
In a nutshell.
Needs a break.
