EXCLUSIVE: ‘Boys of 86’ at Boleyn for Toon clash

McAvennieThe boys of ’86 will make an emotional appearance at the Boleyn on 14 September in the televised Premier League match against Newcastle.

The 1985-86 campaign saw manager John Lyall  lead the club to their highest ever league finish, coming a close third behind Liverpool and Everton.

That particular Hammers team won 26 of their 42 games and finished with 84 points, two behind the Toffees and four behind the Reds, who claimed a famous double. Lyall’s incredible team went on to became known as ‘The Boys of 86.’

TCotteeClaretandHugh has learned that among the legends the fans can expect to welcome are  Frankie McAvennie, Tony Cottee, Phil Parkes, Tony Gale, Alan Devonshire and Alvin Martin.

    What a team they were, shame about the fixture pile up at the end of that season which allowed the scousers to benefit.
