Karren Brady is widely reported today on the comments she made at the Leaders Sports Business Summit at Stamford Bridge ysterday (Wed).
In pursuit of a stick with which to beat West Ham, the media at large leapt on her remarks about the club’s “culture” prior to the Davids arrival and spun them out of recognition.
ClaretandHugh has never been slow to hold the club to account on issues which we believe it has got wrong but we are not joining the crazy media storm on this one whch we believe was a misrepresenation of her choice of words.
The official site today carries a follow-up report of Brady’s comments to the conference and in the interests of positivity we reproduce them in part here.
She said: “Our move to London Stadium was part of our ambitious strategy to take our Club to the very top of the world’s most-popular sport.
“In addition to our strong position in the Premier League, there are factors such as the size and loyalty of our fan base, the capacity of the ground, our strong identity and focus on youth both among supporters and squad development, that have served as key factors in our recent growth.
“When we arrived in 2010, it was plain to my Joint-Chairmen and myself that West Ham United had every key element required to establish the Club as on a truly global scale.
“As a Club famous for winning the World Cup in 1966 and an Academy recognised globally for being the best at producing and developing home-grown talent, it was clear that the strong heritage and traditions required to widen our worldwide appeal were already present.
“Our privileged position as integral members of the Premier League means we can continue to share our unique story with football fans, both at home and abroad.
“With a market-leading digital marketing strategy, new overseas social channels being launched and the Club becoming the first in the UK to sign an eSports player, we are determined to remain at the forefront of the innovative ways in which football is changing to adapt to an ever-changing world.
In that interview there was a piece about our debt, which was said to be around 100 million Pounds, 65 million that was owed to the Dave’s.Now someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but have the Daves said that they won’t take that back. COYI
I agree, Alfie. Rather than being open to learning, they would rather wield their weapons and bash the thing they claim to love. Our Board are managing a club with a c.£200m turnover, and as such need to have experience and skills that these mindless idiots don’t have. I heard Sean’s TalkSport interview last night, and I felt the same sadness that others must have at the sheer lack of interest in balance, fairness and truth etc. Andy just wanted to hit us at every turn because that’s the ‘done thing’ right now. Ever since Tevez-gate, there has been a hate mob out there looking to find any excuse to whack us. Mob culture is fuelled by the media because they have to pander to the masses – after all, it’s the masses who generate the revenue to pay their wages. They’re not interested in reporting the truth, because British mob culture doesn’t care about that – they just want to be incited to a passion cause, however justified, to add some flair to their otherwise dull lives. *sigh*
Youre wasting your time explaining to some people. They dont let the truth get in the way of a club bashing session. The worse thing is the fact that i mean some of our own fans not the media *sigh*
