West Ham Vice-Chairman Karren Brady has told the Sun newspaper that the club did everything in their power to restrict and minimise potential problems.
She told the Sun: “The scenes we saw towards the end of Wednesday’s win over Chelsea at London Stadium were a huge disappointment.
A disappointment to all who have worked so hard to put on such an exciting fixture in the face of a small minority of mindless individuals hell-bent on causing trouble.
There was an electric atmosphere created by passionate supporters, the majority of whom behaved impeccably and supported their team to an excellent win in front of another record attendance.
Ahead of the game, as a club, we did everything in our power to restrict and minimise potential problems.
We worked tirelessly day and night with the safety and security teams at London Stadium and the Metropolitan Police Service to ensure that every potential risk was assessed and prepared for.
Without question, we could have sold out the stadium twice over but the safety of our supporters is always our primary concern.
And as a result we made the correct decision to impose strong restrictions on tickets, which were limited to supporters with a level of recorded purchase history — who could only access one ticket each.
She is getting exactly what she wants she doesn’t want the normal working class fan there anymore all I want is the money people they knew all about the problems before we moved but she is just sitting back saying it isn’t down to us I think she is a disgrace and is stirring it up with some of the comments she comes out with
All I can add is to hope that she does hear about the comments above, totally agree with all that’s been said, and what they are ignoring is the OE was never designed to be a football stadium with fan segregation, it is for non tribal happy go lucky away day people, and to think these bright very wealthy three never got that, they say you can be bright and all that but have NO COMMON SENSE, COYI.
Great comments from everyone.
Sorry lady brady but what you are doing is “shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted”.
As other people have said on here you have had years to come up with a solution.Do you think banning a few fans is going to solve it.?
I was told 2 days previously there was going to be trouble at the ground. When you have teams coming to the stadium with a HISTORY if violence with West Ham you need to take serious precautions.Did she think that a few Police and them stewards would be enough in-between the home and away fans area? The empty seats gap between them should have been doubled.Keeping them farther apart to dampen down the chants and raves that insight the coming together. There were no serious injuries and it was a miracle no fans broke the stewarding lines to get at each other and have a right go!
Sorry Karen but the whole migration has been a cock up and that’s down to you! Should have spent less time thinking about popcorn, family fun areas , merchandise and got the segregation and a family stand sorted in the 1st place. It wasn’t as if you didn’t know how many family tickets or away fans would show up is it? Stop passing the buck and sort it out as the ground is bloody good 🙂
She needs to get her head out of her you know what and accept that they did not do everything in their power to sort out adequate segregation inside the stadium within the initial migration plans from UP.
Bang on the money pop.Did she and the board really think, that meeting opposing fans on the steps on the way out was going to be a “no after you mate” type of coming together. COYI
Agree, I am tired of hearing this from her. It seems like they crossed their fingers and hoped for the best. I accept they cannot stop people from acting like morons, but fact remains it only takes a few. They had years to prepare for this.
