Brazilian striker update

West Ham are not interested in signing Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge despite the player’s agent claiming Hammers interest. The 22-year-old striker from Brazil has spent the last three seasons in Belgium but club insiders have denied is he on their list.

A club insider speaking to Claret and Hugh this afternoon said while the club was actively persuading summer transfer targets in excess of twenty players Moraes was not currently one of them giving him a chance of 1%  to join the Hammers.

The list of transfer targets is known to include Aleksandar Mitrovic,  Salomón Rondón, Moussa Marega and Maxi Gomez even though they face stiff competition from Arsenal.

The chance of signing any of those four targets is rated between 5% and 10% by the club insider which indicates they are not particularly close at this time despite reports to contrary.

West Ham will need to sell to buy with the likes Pedro Obiang, Javier Hernandez, Reece Oxford, Jordon Hugill, Sam Byram and Lucas Perez all available at the right price.

If valuations are met the club wants to be sure they can land players of better quality in similar positions within the budget of both transfer fees and wages.

It could be a long and tiring summer.

  1. I hear there’s a 0.000001% of us signing Messi this summer.

  2. If we are going to the next level forget Mitrovic, a terrible signing and like other posters here I am shocked we have any interest in him. He was a complete failure at Newcastle and had another terrible year this year. He did ok in the championship because that is his standard. I would be very disappointed to also be told we must sell before we can buy. Last season’s 100m investment to have any impact must be followed with a similar investment.

    • No chance in hell mate.. haven’t you heard the old FFP chestnut. Problem is It only affects WHU everyone else can spend what they like.

  3. It has to be Marega or Gomez to show real ambition.Rondon is 30 and Mitrovic is static. We need mobility up front.

  4. I would have thought that with the ball playing technicians that MP favours we would need a mobile CF who can link the play. Arnie can do that (when in the mood). Can also see an argument to support Rondon in the same vein. However, I agree with Johnham in that I do not see Mitrovic as that player. If people say Carroll is not fit for our system then Mitrovic is very similar. Would be a disappointment if the reported interest is genuine.

  5. We will never get Europe football, until we follow the top six teams lead and get ourselves two top draw strikers, we have what’s needed in the middle of the park, one more centre half, get the signings early give everyone a preseason, not signing players when there already in Switzerland. We never seam to learn from the past.

  6. Why aren’t we looking at him, he’s young strong and score goals. Gomez never going to happen, Mitrovic is not what we need, but I do think that Rondon would do a job on the basis that we hold on to Arnautovic. Get rid of Hernandez, but I would keep hold of Perez unless we get a decent offer for him, as what we going to get for 4 million.

  7. Problem is we never learn if this idea of spending after selling is true. Sully you would think is at last realising this as for sure we wont move on without spending until our youth like rice come of age. They and rice wont hang around with the attitude of the past so yes sell our weak players now chich carrol gone Perez Sanchez obiang cresswell and Fernandes and me arnie too and move on but get in the players needed while we can not waiting until another club snaps them up John ham ironman 64 all see this so sully had better wake up and back the market values five to come in as quality and we sell as many as possible to add to the pot pelle will need

  8. If we can’t negotiate a deal for maxi gomez, moussa dembele from lyon would be a good option. Rondon and mitrovic lack ambition if you ask me, they are too slow and too old.

Dembele scored 15 goals in 32 games in ligue 1 and was a stand out performer in the scottish premier league.
