West Ham ITK ExWHUEmployee has confirmed the news that has left many of us puzzled all week: Edson Álvarez is in the squad to face Crystal Palace tomorrow.
This news was initially broken by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano earlier this week when he revealed that the Mexican international would be fit and available for this weekend’s trip to Selhurst Park. The Italian journalist also mentioned that West Ham could expect transfer offers for Álvarez, who has attracted interest from Manchester United.
Álvarez himself hinted at his return while speaking to the club’s website earlier today. “The recovery has gone quite well. I would say I’m closer [to reaching full fitness] than people think. It has been three months of a lot of learning on a personal level,” Álvarez told whufc.com.
“I’ve never had such a serious injury that left me out of action for so long. I was also a bit lucky that it happened when it did, during the holiday period, so I was able to work very hard during the break. I’m very close to being back. I feel very good, very strong, and I’m very excited to get back out there.”
This is great news, as having such an integral part of the squad return earlier than expected is a huge boost for the team.
In a way pity that it didn’t take a week longer, don’t want to lose Alvarez not even for a big fee.
When we’re able to field our strongest eleven it’s a hell of a team backed up by a strong bench. Hopefully it will come together quicker rather than longer. I can see us ripping it up at some point.
It’s good that Alvarez is healthy again. I really don’t think that he will leave West Ham at anytime soon.
Wan-Bissaka is certain to make his Hammers debut against his old team…..that’s if he’s 100% fit. Hopefully Todibo will start, and that Summerville will feature for longer. He’s got a lot of goals in him this season.
If Soler finally joins West Ham, Alvarez may find it easy to communicate in spanish not only with Lopetegui, but also potentially -in a spanish speaking midfield- with Rodriguez and Soler, providing him with another reason to remain a West Ham player.
