West Ham have identified a free transfer target and are looking to complete the signing before the end of the current international break meaning he could be in place for the Fulham EPL game on September 14th.

The identity of the player remains a closely guarded secret, but it is understood that talks are at an advanced stage, with news potentially breaking within the next few days.

Yesterday, a high-placed Hammers source within the club confirmed to Claret & Hugh that “anything is possible” regarding bringing in a player on a free transfer. This followed a cryptic comment from Irons coach Julen Lopetegui, who told journalists, “The window is closed, and you can only sign free players right now.”

West Ham still have space in the squad to bring in more players before the final registration is submitted to the Premier League next month, and it now seems the club is moving in on one of the numerous out-of-contract players available to join.

Summer ’24; the gift that keeps on giving!

There are probably a couple of dozen players who are out there that PL teams might take interest in. Most make Kieron Dyer look like an ever present, more than a couple left because they were looking for packages of E200k a week. At least one is seven years older than Fullkrug. So unless the club has found a pearl everyone else has missed the secrecy is strange. Hopefully Andy Carroll is still at Amiens – as he hits the free agent bingo card being injury prone, old, and generally wanting too much money.

“Places in the squad” after all those deals? We criticised Moyes for a small squad of 23, are we still at those levels?

  • D says:

Oggy Aguerd and zouma. JWP, Cornet and Downs possibly forgotten a couple that would make 8 we brought in 10, so, no we are not as low on numbers as moyes

    • Mark says:

      Johnson and Mubama too

Still quite a small squad , though no Europe this year

    • Mo says:

Thanks, I was just concerned that “places” means more than one and in a squad of 25 it would mean we were still operating at Moyes 23 level. Good point elsewhere that we don’t have European football this year which should help if we are short of numbers

Excellent purchases so far but a fit striker would be the transfer icing on the cake. ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

  • Martyn says:

Joel Matip or Antony Martial. Both could give cover where needed.

  • Jake says:

Hopefully a striker under 30. Martial would be a good fit. Please not Ben Yedder

    • James Moore says:

Yeah totally agree we need another striker to give us more options

      • James says:

Seems like he’s building a squad not just for the league he’s thinking about having the players on the bench for cup games to qualify for Europe league and West Ham r massive everywhere we go we know what we r coui
