West Ham have dispensed with the services of manager Graham Potter, despite him having taken the press conference ahead of Monday’s game against Everton.
The club confirmed his departure on the official website with the usual statements that accompany a manager’s dismissal.
West Ham also announced the exits of his backroom staff, although tellingly Kyle Macaulay was not on the list of released coaches. However, as Claret & Hugh reported last week, the Hammers’ head of recruitment is still expected to follow Potter out of the door.
Nuno Espirito Santo remains the favourite for the West Ham job, though the club said only that “the process of appointing a replacement is underway.”
In reality, that process began nearly two weeks ago, with Potter a dead man walking for some time.
The only real surprise is that the board chose to act so soon before the match against David Moyes’ Everton rather than immediately after the defeat to Tottenham – the point at which the decision to replace him was effectively made.
Disgusting way to treat Potter. Obvious he was going the way various West Ham news outlets were going in two footed on Potter but to let him take the press conference and training etc in the build up to the game. To replace him with nobody particularly inspirational. I feel sorry for the young English players.
The amazing thing here is that Potter had accumulated more points and wins in his total tenure than Moyes’s final games (1/1/24 to season end) equaling the same total played. Should we still be, being careful for what we wish for? 🤔
Potter’s failure was down to the third rate coaching team surrounding him.
Hope that Nuno has better and more practical guys to bring in with him and help the players we already have.
Surely we won’t be needing 3 goalkeeping coaches though.
Sully has signed his resignation with this, Moyes 4.0 can sod off with you sully. NO AMBITION. GET OUT OF MY CLUB NOW YOU PATHETIC LOSER.
It’s not YOUR club Otis. It’s mine. And I applaud the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo. COYI !
Although it was obvious Potter had to go. The way our owners conduct themselves is crass and clasless. To have potter take training all week have him prepare and go to press conferences to talk about mondays game and then sack him the day after is quite possible the dumbest thing ever.
But then maybe i expect too much given we are owned by a man that made his money from owning a newspaper that used made up stories about aliens and people eating wood and relied on young women to get there b&*bs out.
He had to go. As early as possible once the decision is made, there wasn’t too much dallying…
Nuno is low possession, low block Moyesball style again. Flip flopping back after fans wanted a more enterraining style once Moyes low possession approach stopped working ( coincided with Alan Irvine leaving).
So now we have a squad with a few players suited to low possession style of Moyes and at least 6 purchased for controlled, high possession game of Lopetegui and Potter. No lomg term planning and football vision causes this snd the accompanying loss making on players that wont fit the new gaffers dtyle. Also expect a Jan window purchase or two. Sullivan and Brady ate incompetent at everythimg but wasting millions
At least JWP is out now. That’s a positive.
Maybe.
Marshall didn’t play in last U21 match and speculation that Potter might have played him against Everton.
Can only but hope.
Introducing more academy players may show Potter what he should have done.
He has created his own future just like Moyes did in his last 6 months.
Will it be David Sullivan, Lady Brady or Daniel Kretinsky in the dugout against Everton on Monday evening? Seeing as there is no official announcement as yet to Nuno being the new Numero Uno.
sorry but appallingly unprofessional to make Potter attend the pre match press conference and then sack him the following day.
what now? Nuno has been appointed but takes charge with no opportunity to see the players train so he is not going to make any surprises in selection for the Everton game.
confirmed Macaulay gone as well so lets hope the 🤡 hasn’t increased his grip on recruitment
Good riddance !
Did nothing at all !
Never gave any our young players a chance .
Kept playing the same old players and to play Spurs at home without a striker was sacrilegious!!
Well that went South pretty quickly?
One the one hand, watching the games this season has been depressing, slow, drab football, being outplayed etc. etc. On the other hand, 4 losses in 5, including the current Europa League champions, Europa Conference & World Club Champions, FA Cup and Charity Shield holders may not be a fair representation of where west Ham are at this time.
Sullivan really doesn’t do anything professionally does he, what bad timing- again.
Presuming the board and Sullivan isn’t going to change I hope they get someone in who shuts them out as much as possible.
It seems Moyes did that pretty well which those, including me, who wanted him out forgot about. That and as exwesthamemployee said there should have been very little confidence of Sullivan getting a good new manager in. Sadly Moyes was the safest manager we’ve had for years in terms of relegation threat.
Sad that when Moyes left we missed the opportunity to get a really top manager in and with the money that was thrown away with Lopetegui we could have been in such a different place now.
Well said Paul – I think that we have now had more managers under Sully and Brady then we had in the first 100 years of the Hammers existence
Potter had to go but I wish him future success – maybe he needs to go back to the Championship
Been coming for a while. Let’s hope the correct replacement is found & we can progress. Unfortunately the ownership will stay the same COYI ⚒
About time , but who’s next it has to be the right person this time
