West Ham United have officially signed French international defender Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice on a season-long loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2025. The 24-year-old, who stands at 6’3”, has already made over 150 senior appearances and is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.

Todibo began his career at Barcelona, debuting at just 19, and has since demonstrated his abilities across Europe, including loan spells at Schalke 04 and Benfica. Known for his strong tackling, exceptional game-reading skills, and excellent ball distribution, Todibo played a key role in helping Nice reach the Coupe de France final in 2022, the UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-finals in 2023/24, and secure two top-five finishes in Ligue 1.

Excited to join West Ham, Todibo expressed his enthusiasm for playing in the Premier League and contributing to the club’s ambitions under new Head Coach Julen Lopetegui. Sporting Director Tim Steidten praised Todibo’s signing, emphasizing his potential to adapt quickly to the Premier League and excel in the Claret and Blue.

Add AWB and this has to be the best window we’ve had. That’s not to say all the signings will work out 100% — that’s impossible to be certain of.

I’m very surprised given that we can’t offer European football this season.

A brilliant signing, strong and has pace. Get AWB in too and this has been the best transfer window I can ever remember. I’ve being feeling weird all morning, I’ve not had this feeling much before as a West Ham fan, I think it’s called having optimism.

Todibo, Kilman and Summerville certainly give me a huge feeling of optimism for the future of the club. However Rodriguez could well be the pearl this season, well done Tim. 2 fullbacks now please, not sure how much is left as Sean’s 50m is a long way back in the rearview mirror. Europe through the league beckons, but I’d love to see an attempt on a domestic cup.

‘Torpedo’ looks very accomplished and will be the perfect partner for Max Kilman. Bringing in AWB will complete a very strong defence on paper, I just hope they quickly strike up a good understanding.

I started attending games in 1963 and this is the best window ever.

Credit to our much maligned Board over the money they have made available…even if the needless penny pinching on concession has left a bad taste.

How does the loan with obligation work, as the only reason that United wasn’t able to get him was UEFA rules saying ownership of sides playing in the same European competition are not able to transfer players to each other. If the loan has an obligation to purchase, then this could potentially be a sensational signing.

I’m holding my breath until more information comes out, but this transfer window has been phenomenal! And now we have a potentially amazing third kit.

    • Chris says:

I’m with you on the wording mate…obligation means we have to buy option means the window opens for other clubs to sneak in and get him unless the option is we have a certain window in which to purchase him outright otherwise he goes on the market again…and one other thing i am wondering as it is a “loan with option” does that mean instead of say £35million this summer will his price inflate if he performs well and as he wont be our player we have little say in that…ahh well tthoughts for next summer right now what a signing.

I’m fairly sure the option would have a fixed price agreed. I’ve read somewhere that the future fee was negotiated to help spread payments out over several years, but I still can’t get any information about the option to purchase being an obligation or not. We’ve done superbly in the market so far with Tim, so I have faith that the deal has been made in our favour.

        Time will tell.
