Just when you start to think West Ham’s transfer window cannot get any more ridiculous, another story comes along to demonstrate just how wrong you are.
The latest breaking news on the Hammers’ quest for a new right-back comes from the increasingly prolific Florian Plettenberg. The Sky Sports Germany journalist has been at the forefront of much of West Ham’s breaking news during the current transfer shenanigans.
Only this morning, Plettenberg reported that West Ham had pulled out of the deal to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. The collapse of the deal followed the Hammers’ inability to agree on a fee with the Moroccan defender’s representatives.
West Ham’s withdrawal from negotiations presented an opportunity for Manchester United to approach Munich in an attempt to buy the player for themselves. This has also opened the door for the Hammers to resurrect their interest in Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who had previously turned down a move to the London Stadium for financial reasons.
It now appears that the Old Trafford club is prepared to sweeten the deal to facilitate Wan-Bissaka’s move to East London. This, in turn, would free up the necessary space in their squad and finances, allowing them to purchase Mazraoui.
Plettenberg wrote on his social media: “After the failed deal with Noussair Mazraoui, West Ham is now focusing on Aaron Wan-Bissaka!
New talks are planned for the next 48 hours.
Man Utd have lowered their demands. Price valuation of around £10-15 million now. No agreements yet.”
Confused? You should be.
Unless I’m mistaken wasn’t this the same tactic Tim played with Ajax over Borges in order to get Kudus.
Football is a game, not just played on grass but also in the transfer market.
I always thought we’d return for Bruno and surprise surprise we have, he wants to come, family want him to come, agent wants him to come, and his club too. The deal although off was always there, all we needed to do was offer a few £ more, which is what we are now prepared to do. Kilman, Bruno, Wan Bassaka, Duran plus cover for Alvarez and we should be good.
I suspect a £30m loan to buy bid for Summerville late in the window as we’ve warmed them up too.
So pleased to read Hammer 61’s intelligently-expressed comment above.
Far too many comments on this site are emotional reactions which do not show any respect for the background work and efforts which are made to secure a transfer.
Sadly, the game is dominated right from the top by ‘financial non-fair-play’.
After the amazing buisness we done last year, I think there is more to come, we just need to be patient and stop jumping the second a deal collapses and get behind our staff/team. Come on you irons!
I posted here during the week that I thought I was overthinking things, by guessing that we were feigning interest in ManU’s target, to push them into dealing over Wan Bissaka – our real target. Hopefully this is right
Wan Bissaka was the original target, so Baldrick’s cunning plan may work out in the end.
I wouldn’t buy from man utd they won’t get buying either that them keep wan whatever his name is
Having negotiated £m deals globally in a different business sphere the last thing I would call Steidten is amateur – he shows a lot of good qualities over and above whats gone before Whether you like our current directors or not show some respect for the fact they have real skin in the game. Like it or not football is now a global business and there are some complicated financial rules which come into play aside from disreputable agents and unreasonable players demands and aspirations. As a 63 yr old lifelong Hamner I wish it was easy to attract and retain top players but it just aint!
Totally agree, a rare intelligent comment
Level headed voice of experience . I agree, well said.
Well said. Totally agree.
This is really positive and all part of the game I think. Mess with united’s target – get them to move for him. Always going to sign for them with European football and then that means they need to free up space and get some funds in . I would love AWB . He is a proper defender – can tuck in to make the back 3 and unleash Emerson to join further up. That’s the Loopy way so I think he fits the bill and if it comes if it’s a great bit of business .
I think KWP is better suited to JL’s style of play
Didn’t he knock us back for Inter Milan??
It’s like a car boot sale in Essex with Sullivan.
The problem with all this low ball bids is if the negotiations drag on it alerts all the other PL teams to the deal as well.
If you really want the player pay up and look brave and get it done quickly.
Almost like they done it on purpose
we ve learnt nothing, this club is run by amateurs and steitdon now appears to have joined them
100% agree Vince
And yet it looks like we’re going to get our original target for less money. Maybe Steidten has been playing Man Utd these last few days
That is exactly what he’s doing. Outfoxed manure 😎👍
