West Ham winger suffers disappointing set-back on return to action

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville could be sidelined for an extended period following revelations that his injury is worse than initially expected.

This news comes as a huge surprise after the club released footage over the weekend showing the £25 million summer signing fully involved in Hammers training.

However, Claret & Hugh have been informed this morning that last season’s Championship Player of the Year could be out for as long as eight weeks.

This development will be a significant blow to new West Ham head coach Graham Potter, who only managed to use Summerville for 45 minutes during his first game in the FA Cup against Aston Villa.

During his brief appearance under Potter, Summerville looked electric playing in the right wing-back role, creating the first goal of the Hammers’ new regime, which was slotted home by Lucas Paquetá.

West Ham remain hopeful the wide-man can return earlier than scheduled, but Potter is understood to be reluctant to rush anyone back too quickly.

How bizarre. Injured in the same game as Fullkrug who immediately looked serious but Summerville looked like he might run it off. Now it seems Fullkrug may be back first. Major blow…

We knew this before deadline day not today what crap. Honestly I don’t know why we didn’t sign a box to box player with pace and energy , that’s what we’re missing . DS needs to fully back Potter in the summer .

Gives Potter the chance to have a good look at Guilherme and a chance at last for the Kid to show what he has to offer….as has been mentioned already the seasons done this is all about planning for next season now and gives Potter time to assess all the players and then know who to keep who to move on and build a side in his image.

      Summerville is a blow.
Guilherme has assets to be the box-to-box player that’s needed to fill space.
What an opportunity for Potter to become more acquainted and an unexpected chance for Guilherme.
From remarks made by many fans this will be viewed with much interest.
Hopefully in 2 years he will be a £50m player.

This season is a dead rubber, so while it’s gutting, it’s more opportunity for squad players and especially the youngsters. GP has already shown he doesn’t have a problem with shuffling the pack.

    • Esexiron42 says:

Phil agree that GP has already shown he doesn’t mind shuffling the pack and good to see Scarles and Orford brought on and Irving making his debut last night.

Although we are out of the cup competitions and safe from relegation I still believe the club have to show our ambition by finishing in the highest possible position. The PL merit payments for each clubs finishing position meant each place is worth approximately £3.1 million. So in the 2022/23 season Man City received £62.3 million for finishing first, 10th place was worth £34.3 million and bottom placed Southampton got £3.1 million. Then with the money for each time a club appears on TV, Everton got an extra £19.4 million despite finishing 17th in the table in 22/23. Sullivan will definitely have a very close eye on that!

  • Retired Hammer says:

Looks like no way they can let Luis Guilherme go then.

    • Essexiron42 says:

C&H just posted he’s staying thank goodness. With Summerville being out for another 8 weeks it would have been madness to loan or sell him, especially with Feyenord interested and their window closing today.

    • Eddie Burke says:

Maybe when he’s off he should bulk up a bit but Potter needs to trust our youth which he seems to be starting too
