Breakthrough as defender jets in

By Dave Langton

Thilo Kehrer is set to jet into London for a medical with West Ham after the club made a breakthrough in talks with PSG.

Sources have confirmed to C&H that the centre-back is poised to fly to the English capital and could undergo his medical as early as tomorrow (Wednesday).

Kehrer has been identified as a key target by David Moyes after Issa Diop was sold to Fulham.

The Hammers remain keen on bringing a new defender into the club before this weekend’s Premier League clash with Brighton and there is a hope that Kehrer will be registered in time to play.

Kehrer is likely to cost around £16m and the Hammers are hopeful of sorting the formalities of a deal soon, barring any unforeseen issues.

The 25-year-old is in the last year of his contract with PSG and has made 128 appearances for the club, while also winning 20 caps for Germany.

  1. I may need to swallow my words and apologise to the board about this one . I was led to believe it wasn’t moving due to finances but that appears wrong. Will be a great signing let’s hope we get it done ⚒

  2. This would be a very good signing. Let’s just hope they actually get this one over the line. There is a major worry at our centre back situation. I have heard that Zouma is carrying a major injury problem. It has been plainly obvious that Zouma has been carrying an injury in the last few matches. His movement has clearly been restricted and you can see he has been limping throughout matches. This being the case we owe a big debt of gratitude to the player. He is clearly putting his own welfare at considerable risk for the sake of the team. But it does call into question the wisdom of getting rid of a number of our younger players and also letting Diop go. If Zouma is also forced out because of injury we have no natural fit centre backs.
Who is going to play at centre back this Thursday? Don’t forget Rice is suspended along with Cresswell. Going forward we may well have to sign yet another centre half before the window closes.

  3. Wait ’till he sees the kit he’s expected to wear. Hope it doesn’t spoil his concentration, because if he slips and injures himself. . . .
