Brentford 1-1 West Ham

Areola:6 No chance with Bryan Mbeumo’s half volley after only 23 seconds but almost nothing else to do until 60 mins when he made a comfortable save. Wasn’t too busy.

Wan Bissaka:8 Very important intervention on 7 mins stopped a 1 on 1 situation. Overlapped Bowen on numerous occasions. Switched to left back in the second half and played very well.

Todibo:7 His best display in a West Ham shirt so far. Fast and good awareness with a decent range of passing.

Kilman:7 Excellent clearance on 58 mins and recovered well from the early goal.

Emerson:5 His lack of chemistry with Kudus remains a concern. Gave the ball away far too easily in the first half.

Soucek:8 In the right place at the right time to draw West Ham level on 54 mins. As always, gave 100% and made a couple of decent passes too.

Rodriguez:5 I wish he would stop shooting from long range. Did okay but his lack of pace can result in him going to ground too much.

Paqueta:5 Off the pace and off target far too frequently. However, the Brazilian did play his part in the Hammers equaliser.

Bowen:7 Looked sharp and up for the game with his direct running. Great first touch and interplay to help create Soucek’s goal.

Kudus:6 Full of strong running and dribbling, had a few shots on goal but was surprisingly substituted at half time.

Antonio:6 looked fit and energetic in the first half and dragged a left foot shot just wide in the 32nd minute. Involved as Soucek made it 1-1 but was exhausted after an hour of hard work.

Substitutes

Soler:6 Halftime replacement for Kudus and showed glimpses of his talent as West Ham turned on the pressure.

Mavropanos:6 Replaced Emerson after the break to play at right back. Don’t be surprised to see him in this position again.

Summerville:5 On for Paqueta and had a shot which forced a corner.

Ings:5 74 min sub for Antonio

Irving: Replaced Bowen on the 92nd min

Thought we looked more like a team today but still a lot of work to do, important we didn’t lose . Individually 2nd half defence did well ,it defo takes time to gel . Keep the faith ,I get as frustrated as anybody thats why I’m a west ham fan .

Scrappy game. We’re not playing as a team which is perhaps not surprising given all the changes. Todibo doesn’t look too not tough enough to me, he looks fairly no nonsense when we have corners. We could click at any time but no sign of it as of yet…

The above comments just about say it all.

I might add we seem to play differently everytime, and during each game, as Loppety Guy keeps changing it around,

I can only conclude that he’s experimenting. But can you do that in the Prem. and how long for?

  • Sheik Yerbouti says:

I hope Füllkrug is back soon because Antonio cannot last a game.

  • Essexiron67 says:

Agreed S but we have got a new team as well as a new manager big difference

  • David Moyes says:

We’re not very good are we…..

  • John barker says:

Give him until Christmas. Hopefully we’ll come good.

  • Spindoc says:

I still can’t work out the logic of subbing Kudus at half time and replacing him with Soler (rather than the more obvious choice, Summerville) and Mavro playing at right back.

Anyway, it worked better – after a fashion, but is it more by accident than design?

Look at it as another good away point. However, we substitute our best player, that is being played out of position at 1 nil down at half time. Soucek will come up with these moments but if he doesn’t he’s a passenger and Antonio looks like a 16 year old farm dog that needs putting out of his misery. Lopetegui is making it up as he goes along. Out of the frying pan and in to the fire

  • Pongo says:

We have a lot of talented players, but their bot playing as, a, unit and lopetugui isn’t playing them in the right positions either we need to be more compact in midfield and we need to play kudus in Central midfield in a, 442 set up, it’s upto the players to perform and when fulkrieg is back I would alternate paqueta and soucek in the 10 role preferably soucek until paqueta bucks his ideas up. Todibo will do a job for us he just needs time to get used to the Premier league but was better today.

  • Gaz says:

I seem to be the only one unimpressed with Bowen. He was invisible for half the game and has seemed off the pace most games. Is he pining for LVP?
A scrappy game and entertaining just the same. Potential there (always) but yet to be realised. Definitely an improvement.
