Well, Brentford seem particularly pleased with themselves this afternoon, and so they should be.

Because the Bees have announced that they have signed Callum Wilson from West Ham United on a free transfer.

Wilson Rewarded After Successful West Ham Spell

Wilson, of course, was far better than anybody expected at the London Stadium last season, scoring some important goals and, remarkably, staying fit for the entire campaign.

At the time of his arrival, Wilson’s signing for the Hammers was met with scepticism and anger, as many supporters viewed David Sullivan doing his old mate, Will Salthouse, a favour by taking on the injury-prone veteran striker.

But, to be fair to Wilson, he ignored the talk online, kept his head down and proved to be an excellent acquisition on what was a pay-as-you-play contract.

Brentford Gain Proven Goalscorer

At the time, it all seemed a little odd given Wilson’s big mate, Michail Antonio, had not been offered a new deal by the West Ham hierarchy. But as it turned out, it was completely the right decision.

As for Brentford, they’ve got themselves a proven Premier League goalscorer who is currently sitting on 95 goals in the top flight.

I’m quite sure nobody at West Ham would bet against him getting the five more he needs to reach the magic milestone of 100.

Good luck, Callum.

Official announcement: Brentford confirm Callum Wilson signing.

Umm. Alvarez was on loan at Fenerbahce last season and remains a West Ham player. Where are we getting our facts from? Evidently not the same place as you.

About time we stopped buying journeyman mercenaries who take their payday and are then off at the first opportunity.
