Brentford are seeking a third double over West Ham
It’s easy to forget these things amid all the anger that’s around the London Stadium but the reality is that we have been unable to beat them in the Premier League since they were promoted at the end of the 20/21 season.
Brentford are seeking a third double over West Ham
Chairman Cliff Crown and manager Thomas Frank have done a brilliant job since in signing Ivan Toney for £10 million and others on the cheap and have barely suffered in selling us Said Benrahma for £30 million(sigh) and Ollie Watkins to Villa,
The Toney move came after he was offered to us for £10 million with Moyes admitting he had him scouted almost every week for months before telling Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry “no thanks.”
The Bees now head for the London Stadium having done the double over us in 21/22,. 2-1 at our place and 2-0 at theirs whilst beating us twice again in 22/23 by 2-0 home and away. This season we found the London Stadium net twice to their three times so another double is on the cards.
Once considered a Cinderella club – notably by Fulham and Chelsea fans in south west London – they have established themselves well in the PL although given their 14th position this term will be desperate for another win over us.
The last thing we need right now is a hoodoo club turning up on us and no doubt manager Moyes will tell us how good they and their manager are at his press conference. He normally does that on the opposition team and manager before every game clearly believing we actually want to hear it!
The Bees have won two and lost three of their last five games which is a little better than us and – sorry and all that – but I don’t think we have enough to beat them this time so my prediction is another 2-0 Bees win.
Frankly, I’m beginning to believe I may have to live a very long time to see us score from open play again !
