Brighton 3-2 West Ham

Areola:7 Started the game with a feint, a shimmy and a long ball as Brighton pressed immediately. Nothing he could do with the opener from Ayari which was a sensational curling shot from 25 yards. Fantastic point blank save just after the Irons scored the equaliser. Must have been heartbroken to concede the winner from Baleba who curled in a world class strike from 35 yards.

Todibo:5 Made an important clearance as West Ham came under serious pressure at the start of the 2nd half.

Mavropanos:6 Excellent pass to pick out Bowen early in the game. Made a telling block on a decent Welbeck shot. Too easily outmanoeuvred by Wieffer who forced Areola into action and should have done better from a good Bowen cross. Some decent passes from defence but lost Mitoma for the late equaliser.

Kilman:6 Excellent cross for Soucek who hit the bar. Not too bothered by March and was often in wide positions as the left CB in a back three.

Wan Bissaka:8 Called into action early on to head a ball away from danger. Two early dribbles created chances for Bowen and Soucek. Brilliant recovery tackle late in the first half stopped a dangerous Seagulls counter. Had two decent(ish) half chances.

Brighton 3-2 West Ham: AWB had an excellent game

Soucek:6 Clearly under instruction to get into the box as much as possible and had a shot in the first 10 mins following good work from Wan Bissaka. Towering header almost drew West Ham level. Prime Soucek scored with header to make it 2-1 from a delicious Bowen cross.

Ward Prowse:5 Played his part in a midfield which was massively overrun at times.

Emerson:5 Nowhere near as involved as AWB on the opposite flank. Given a far bigger test after Brighton made their subs in the second half.

Paqueta:6 Probably should have closed down quicker for the opener. Played as the number 8 alongside JWP for the first half. Stepped up his creativity in the second half as the game became incredibly open.

Kudus:7 Really seemed up for the fight and found himself popping up in all areas of the pitch.  Got on the scoresheet as he timed his run perfectly to score from a couple of yards out. Some very good dribbling and protected the ball well.

Bowen:8 Looked sharp and even though he technically started as striker, drifted to the right where he is more effective. Made an excellent run at the start of the second half and picked our Kudus for the Hammers equaliser. Repeated the trick on 83 mins when his deep in-swinging cross was headed home by Soucek to make it 2-1.

Bowen looked lively and created goals for Kudus and Soucek

Substitutes

Fullkrug:6 Half time swap for Ward Prowse as Graham Potter chased the lead against his former club.

Coufal: 85th min replacement for Emerson. Poor old Coufal was caught out as Gruda ghosted in behind him to allow Brighton back into the game.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Gonzo why you insistent on calling out mavropanos for mitomas goal when it was clearly kilman who left him clear for his header literally walking the opposite way to the headed pass across goal, we know it’s normally mav who makes a cock up only this time it was kilman

  • mac says:

I would not put potter anywhere rebuilding the team .lost 5 extra points in 3 extra time matches We will lose more players than we can replace. No wonder we were the only club that wanted him.

  • Millis77 says:

Poor old Coufal was caught out. The only reason that happened was because he was put on the pitch by the clueless bloke that our pointless owner put in charge

  • Mick Bering says:

Get Kilman out of this team quick Got to realise now he is not commanding the areas he should be Lots of goals being conceded through hes lack of authority and reading of the game If people at the club cant see this then theres something seriously wrong with our management setup

  • Essexiron67 says:

Potters subs are as bad as Moyes , there might be 3 teams with less points then but could anybody really say we are a better team ,sorry after 60 years as a fan I don’t think so .

  • Essexiron67 says:

    PATHETIC

  • Simon says:

    What match stats are these.
Seems like you wanted to give everyone a 10, yet West Ham lost again with 3 goals scored by one of the off form teams in the league.
So many poor performances by all, goal keeper included.
The team is divided, with Bowen + Kudus doing their own things as individuals. And clearly refuse to play Fullkrug into the team when the opportunities were there.
Bowen did that last week, and again today. How can he be allowed to captain this team, really.
And Potter again stuffed up with a ridiculous substitution at a critical time.
And what was the 40mil pound centre back doing for the last goals. And Areola, oh boy … 2 strikes outside the box, and nowhere near it.
So on and on we go … Potter, Bowen + co …..
Disgusting to say the least !!!

Time to invest in a pair of knitting needles. Got to be much more interesting following a pattern and very rewarding with each job done.

    COYK

  • John Ayris says:

We had it won and blew it, we are that weak the table doesn’t lie. Relegation favourites for next season as things stand. Lucky there were three truly appalling teams this season.

We cannot afford any more of Sullivans deranged decisions, he has the club on its knees. Others don’t need to be decent we make ourselves weak for them.

  • Jack E4 says:

I can’t get my head around bringing on an out of form right back to replace a left back with 5 minutes to go whilst trying to defend a 1-goal lead. I can only suppose Scarles is injured. Also we could have done with Alvarez to close down the middle, from where they scored twice. That’s not what JWP is good at. Very poor game management again.

  • Dartmoor Mushroom says:

What a team, only we could lose that 😂, still I expect Potter will be singing everyone’s praises, 60 years supporting this team . Only my opinion but that was at best average, but then we were playing the Mighty Brighton , 🤣🤣🤣,
It was only ever going to be a defeat , wasn’t it !

  • Jeeps says:

Some things are not consistent but losing in injury time is becoming a habit.
So close to moving up the league even if it was only for a short time.
A lot spoken about Soucek but his goal may have impact on whether he stays or goes.
Could add an extra few million to transfer fee.
Every game played brings a new player to top of list for the exit.
Just no consistency across the team.

  • Graham Watts says:

Down to the players in my view, major changes needed in the Summer. Blaming the manager(s) all the time is missing the point. Players haven’t performed at Premier level for two and half seasons!

  • Jay says:

Losing a game we were winning in the 83rd minute. Shambolic.

I’m becoming more disillusioned with Potter every week.

  • ricardo says:

What a terrible final result. A poor fist half (a WH tradition by now), but the second half thru the 2-1 advantage was looking very hopeful, only to end again in one more defeat. By now Lopetegui’s numbers probably are better than Potter’’s and with the same group of players…

  • Wally1982 says:

Mavrapanos was marking welbeck when the cross for their equaliser came in. It was kilman who lost mitoma. Watch it again he moves towards the 6yard box whilst mitoma runs the other way to score.
    Not mavs fault.

    • Cubbie says:

Kilman is a liability. Needs to go

    • Bill Ryan says:

Exactly what I said he just literally walked away from mitoma and his movement wasn’t near the flight of the ball, if that’s paqueta they would be saying he done it deliberately schoolboy error

  • Gary says:

Every time Potter does a late defensive sub. That player costs us a late goal

  • Martyn says:

Yep, really have tightened up the defence…..who you kidding.

  • Jim says:

I love Bowen but he needs to lose the armband. You’re the captain, get the team up the pitch. Instead he sits off and gives the guy 10 yards for a free hit, worldie mind bust should’ve been shut down much quicker
