West Ham ExclusiveĀ

Midfielder Josh Brownhill is understood to have relocated to Essex, further fuelling belief that a move to West Ham is imminent.

As Claret & Hugh exclusively reported last night, Brownhill is in advanced talks with the Hammers over a free transfer to the London Stadium. The 29-year-old is believed to have received two firm offers, both from London clubs—but West Ham are thought to be in pole position.

Without reading too much into the timing, we’ve learned that Brownhill has now moved into a property in Brentwood, leaving his former home in the north-west behind. It’s also worth noting that as of last night, club sources were refusing to comment on the news when we asked them directly.

The former Manchester United trainee is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his Burnley contract. The Clarets recently secured promotion back to the Premier League, but the midfielder looks set to move on—with West Ham’s offer said to comfortably exceed his previous Burnley wages.

Brownhill had an outstanding campaign in the Championship last season, scoring 18 goals and wearing the captain’s armband. Having made over 200 appearances for Burnley, he would bring Premier League experience and leadership to Graham Potter’s midfield revamp.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender šŸ˜¬āš’ļø Irons

You did us so well Josh ,but the grass is not greener on the other side.Thankyou ,you will be missed.Hope its the right decision

  • Elizabeth Nutter says:

    He’s in Bali on holiday!!

  • Phil Baker says:

Westham , a club in such disarray , crappy owners and coach , can only hope to sign players with limited abilities and precious little ambition . Be prepared for an under whelming summer transfer window followed by some dour football .

  • Hammeroo says:

I hope we are not setting the club up for another Maxwell Cornet disaster from Burnley!

  • Beyond caring now says:

Great signing this if it happens….its good to plan for the Championship

  • Mick bering says:

Brownhill 29 So much for our youthfull new world Nowhere near as good as Soucek one in one out

    • Lee says:

Quicker, better with the ball and better tackler than the donkey Soucek

      • Mick bering says:

Soucek without his goal input we would have been in deeper trouble this season prem goals gold dust goals a lot easier to come by in cship and to standout

  • Mike J says:

I don’t understand the hate with this signing. He’s quick, reliable and an upgrade on some of the midfielders we had last season. Get behind him if he signs and hope he does well!

    • Martin Treasure says:

exactly, does he improve the squad. yes.

    • Chris says:

Has he found pace since he last played in the Premier? Its hard to understand what the thinking is when we could do with a whole new Midfield. The thought of him being added to the current crop at WHU is worrying. If Potter wants him…….it’s his job that will be on the line. Let’s hope he settles and does well. No hate…….just an opinion.

    • Q says:

Spot on. 18 goals and 6 assists last season. Hes the complete package. Let the haters hate. I’d rather have Briwnhill coming off the bench than any other midfielder we had in our team last season.

  • Macephtopheles says:

Honestly think it’s a good signing with him costing naff all.

Sure, he’s 29 and has never been the most mobile but he always puts a shift in and his reading of the game makes up for his lack of pace.

When you consider that we’ve got Potts, Earthy and Kante all coming back and Orford hopefully going to get an opportunity then that’s a new midfield with a bit of bite to them.

The focus can be on a couple of strikers, a couple of defenders.and a new goalie.

  • Brian says:

Brownhill will do a decent job.. Sully should get Walker-Peters and Ramsdale from Southampton …..Which would allow Bissaka to move to ( midfield )where l think he would be the answer to our prayers ….Then Sullivan should let Potter have his way……

  • Hugh Jassoll says:

next up Vardy and then onto big Harry. then we will have all sullivans targets of the last ten years

  • Jay says:

If we are going to sign young players then we need some experience to play alongside them.

While hardly an overly inspiring prospect, Brownhill on a free makes sense and will be an improvement on the likes of Rodriguez in our midfield.

As for his age, he’s 29. Bowen is 29 this year too. I don’t hear many claiming he’s lost his edge or pace.

Players don’t hit 30 and their form drops off a cliff face. If we get two or three seasons out of Brownhill and he performs well then it will prove to be a shrewd free transfer.

    • Lance marsh says:

Good point Jay, but I’d sell Bowen if the right offer were to be made. He is 29 and won’t be around playing as well as he does now for too long. I think we should be signing much younger players and starting a proper rebuild.

  • MJ says:

So for all the talk about buying young up and coming talent that have something to prove and fit into Potters system our first signing is a free from Burnley pushing thirty. Sullivan doing Sullivan type sh*t again. Let’s hope he’s another Dawson, but this doesn’t bode well for the rest of the transfer window, assuming will sell players to fund any incomings before the start of the season.

  • dwizz says:

This is a good signing on a free. Look at how much Ward-Prowse and Alvarez cost (Ā£60million) and ask yourself, was that money well spent?

  • NorfolkHammer says:

thought we were going for younger players ha ha well if this is Potter’s strategy, Championship here we come, this club never fails to decive

  • Pete says:

I always admired the hard work this lad puts in. Never wasted, his efforts always seemed to be played out with everyone understanding what the end result was.
Skill, strength and awareness. Never quite understood why we never brought him in years ago when linked with him.
Hope he comes through the door, you can see a Hammer in a player and he always fitted the role for me .

  • Jon says:

Avram Grant had Premiership experience when he got Portsmouth relegated the season before we hired him and then subsequently dropped with him in charge.

Brownhill and Ramsdale both have similar experience.

The season just gone was dismal but the one ahead could be absolutely catastrophic.

  • SirAlfred says:

One for the future! He’s 30 so old and slow. Sullivan Circus in full flow once again. Potter aint got a chance if getting the young, dynamic midfield he wants. Old, experienced, slow and high wages. Sullivan probably knows the agent of Brownhill too. Sullivan incapable of changing or learning

    • Dad’s Army says:

No manager has a chance until Sullivan leaves.

I would put a bet on Potter being the first Prem Manager to get sacked but we know Sullivan likes to give time even though our season will be over by November / December.

I’m worried Leeds will be better than us next season and we will be relegated

      • Mike Healey says:

Good luck with your investment on Brownhill .His greedy agent will benefit most .Obviously as a Burnley supporter I’m very disappointed to lose our skipper and talisman but things move on very quickly in football and yesterdays soccer back pages end up in the trash can .Hope our ex skipper isn’t a casualty. .

  • Time for Change says:

    Buzzkill is more appropriate!

Uninspired choice that was always going to happen as Sullivan has wanted him for a while. Been linked to him for years under various managers.

Could come in useful in 2 seasons time when we aim to get promoted back to the Premiership.
