Udinese have made an offer to Sunderland for former West Ham midfielder Pierre Ekwah.
The news was broken by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano earlier this evening via his social media account.
West Ham signed Ekwah from Chelsea’s academy in July 2021 for a fee of £1.4 million. The Frenchman failed to make a breakthrough at the London Stadium and was subsequently sold to the Black Cats for a cut-price £350k in January 2023.
As part of the transfer, the Hammers inserted a sell-on clause which would net West Ham between 25% and 35% of any future transfer fee.
The Italian Serie A club has approached Sunderland for a permanent transfer of the 22-year-old, who still has three years left on his existing contract. Sunderland, are insulated by Ekwah’s lengthy contract and are not compelled to sell and can demand a higher price. However, Sunderland’s asking price will be affected by the Hammers’ sell-on clause and adjusted accordingly.
Ah, yes! What a “Brucie Bonus” that is!
Pay £1.4m to sign him. Lose almost £1.1m on selling him and then can make up to 35% of any profit involved in a sale of the player.
Like seriously, it’s not great. I mean say he’s sold for £3m. That means West Ham are due proceeds of £2.65m of that. 35% is £927,500. So still a loss.
Even looking at a £6m transfer we’d be entitled to slightly north of £1.975m and considering the initial loss in sale it’s working out at less than a million being added to West Ham’s kitty. And I doubt the fee will be approaching those figures.
Absolute nonsense article.
How can It be a bonus went West Ham have lost a million pounds on him already
Sunderland was a great move for him. I thought he was a very talented player and just needed regular football.
Sunderland fans would need to tell us how well he’s done, but he’s a great guy and I wish him all the best.
Sell-on clauses are overwhelmingly for a percentage of profit, not the total fee.
Yes. But in this case Sunderland only paid £350 thousand so the sell on clause would apply to the bulk of the transfer fee.
Apart from the profit to WHU
Should e care
Apart from the profit to WHU
Should we care
Why would we want to sell one of our prized assets, no need to sell anybody
He plays for Sunderland
