Claret & Hugh can reveal today the incredible clause that has been inserted into every West Ham player’s contract in the event of relegation.

Earlier this afternoon, C&H were briefed by an agent who explained why buying players in January would mean paying inflated prices if the club remain in the relegation places.

Our source informed us: “You really need to be away from the bottom three or four clubs in the Premier League if you want to sign anyone half decent. Nobody is going to want to join West Ham given the club policy of cutting wages in half for relegation.”

Every West Ham player would have their wages reduced by 50%

Every Player Affected

The source continued: “Players will ask for clauses and bigger signing-on fees because the club won’t budge on their relegation clause.”

When we asked if the source knew how many Hammers players would drop to 50% wages in the event of relegation, we were stunned by the response: “Everyone is.”

It was also made clear to C&H that far from insulating West Ham financially, this policy would likely make current players even more eager to leave should relegation happen. “Who wants to play for half wages in the Championship?”

Indeed.

If we get relegated they don’t deserve full wages , such is life in the real world

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

It’s a good policy the rewards drop massively in the championship it’s bad enough supporting passengers in the PL let alone if they drop and a good motivation to keep from that happening.

  • NoMoMoney says:

50% cut may lead to players wanting to leave….
How many players that got you relegated do you want to keep?

  • Paul says:

Planning for the worst hoping for the best. Even Nuno has not brought in his own back room staff as he knows relegation is a certainty. He always knows the state of the team Potter had to work with was from the previous poor signings.
West Ham are getting relegated but this could be really positive as May just be the nudge that the board needs to sell up

  • Kenny Irons says:

As we all know, years of appalling recruitment and ridiculous contracts for average or over the hill players have created this situation.
Nuno hasn’t got a magic wand, and I think we’re in serious s**t.
Well done, Sullivan, you are a disgrace 😡

  • Ray says:

I assume the fans will only have to pay half to go and watch them?

  • Zahama says:

Things have changed from when playing in the old division 2 could be exciting
Nuno’s brief is clear save us from relegation
