Burton Albion 0-1 West Ham United
0-0 after 90 minutes.
Areola:6 Seems to have caught a nasty case of Fabianski-itis where he pretends to throw the ball out, hesitates and kills opportunities for counter attacks. Not really under threat until the 120th minute when he made a decent save.
Walker Peters:6 Made an important rescue block on 11 minutes after Scarles had made his second error of the game in a nervous start. Did okay getting forward but Wan Bissaka won’t be too worried.
Maropanos:6 Made captain for the day. Had his shaky moments and needlessly gave away a freekick in a dangerous position. Headed straight at the keeper from a corner during a better start to the second half. Always in the mix when the team attacked from set-pieces. Seems to have mastered the straight long ball behind the opposition defence.
Kilman:6 One of a number of players to vanish in one of the most boring halves of football I’ve ever seen but did make an important block just before the interval.
Mayers:5 Did oaky but West Ham didn’t need three central defenders. Moved to left back in the second half. Had a shot just wide in extra time having shown good pace.
Scarles:5 Early error wasn’t capitalised on by Burton. Started as wing back but very advanced when West Ham had possession.
Magassa:6 More composed than Kante but the balance and blend of the midfield didn’t really work. Was more able to show his quality in the second half.
Kante:4 Clumsy at times but absolute menace physically. Too many loose passes but he was far from alone in that regard. Didn’t do enough to force himself into first team contention but neither did anyone else.
Traore:5 Showed his strength and pace early in the game but lacking that final touch. Immediately improved in the second half with a solo run which took out half the Burton team.
Lamadrid:4 Really hard to make a judgement considering he played on the periphery of the game. Hard to watch and not wonder what could have been with Guilherme. Started the second half brightly with a dribble from a more central position.
Wilson:4 Too isolated at the start of the game. Had a long-range shot in the 36th min which was the Hammers first attempt. Should have done better from good play on the wing from Traore. Finally forced the keeper into a save following a good pass from Dinos. Painful to watch when he drops deep.
Substitutes
Potts:3 Replaced Lamadrid on 71 mins. Red carded for a bad tackle but then seemed to refuse to leave the pitch and continued to argue with the referee.
Castellanos:6 Came on for Traore as part of a double sub. Completely fluffed his lines when free in the box on 89 mins meaning everyone had to endure 30 minutes more awful football. Made sone good runs but with no playmaker to feed him it was difficult.
Summerville:7 Swapped for Scarles on 82 mins. Scored a deflected solo goal, following a fine dribble at the start of extra time to continue his great form. Linked well with Taty whnet the Hammers were down to 10 men.
Disasi:6 Extra time substitution for Wilson. Immediately call upon with a scissor kicked clearance.
Orford:6 Replaced Kante who finished the first half of extra time limping. Blocked a cross to stop a Burton attack and not scared to tell senior players where to position themselves.

Mavropanos had a great game I thought.
Who remembers who Palace played in the fourth round last year and if they were lucky to progress? Me neither, onwards and upwards
Why Nuno started with a back 5 is beyond me, better shape with 2 up top, Wilson isn’t a player that can play the lone striker role and better alongside a big target man.
Traore looks ring rusty, I thought Mayer’s was decent and Lamadrid had a few moments that can encourage us and agree on Orford he looked calm and composed when he came on.
Message for Nuno stick with 442 unless there is no choice and then go 451 if you have too but not 361
Overall we got the job done but could do better, thank good for Summerville COYI !!!
Why do we have to endure managers not playing first twam players in cup games? Going on a winning run is more important than worry about injuries that can happen even at home. Lots of supporters of both clubs paidxgood money to see drivel so how fair is that? At least we won.
Nuno really likes making things difficult!!
Why he didn’t start the A team , get to 2 or 3 nil and then bring the B team on at 60 mins !!
Instead we are now missing Potts for 3 games and must have put doubt back into the squad !
If it ain’t broken don’t change it !!
Only good thing they won.
Terrible game and shows how thin squad is.
One red card player returns and another goes.
Nuno sure to be pleased that’s over.
Not sure why need a cup run on that showing.
