Bye Bye, Benrahma, and thanks!

From the club website whufc.com comes the news that Said Benrahma has now completed a permanent move following his successful loan at Olympic Lyonnais. Whatever opinions we had of Said as a winger (was he really ever a good ‘fit’ for us when played as a winger) he will be forever in our memories for that penalty in the Prague final.

We wish him well! Benrahma had a current value as ‘estimated’ by transfermarkt.com of £20 million. Even if we get 75% of that back from the loan and sale combined to Lyon, it’ll be another poor return on the £23 million ish (combining loan and purchase) paid for him from Brentford in 2020/1.

What is intriguing to me is that the club have chosen to keep quiet about the amount of his fee. ‘Undisclosed’. Why? I wonder if there is a deal doing on – or under discussion – in the other direction, as mentioned by us a couple of times recently with sought – after defender Jake O’Brien being under the spotlight as one of the highlighted targets.

Maybe that accounts for the ‘undisclosed’ transfer fee? Or am I getting over- optimistic?

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. 'Football is Life' oh yes. Let it raise your spirit but never darken your mood. Life's too short not to enjoy the journey with our Claret and Blue heroes n' villains.

A quality left winger, could have been among the greats, but needed confidence, great when he started a match, but if he comes on as a sub, and it didn’t go his way, he’d hide from the ball.
    Hope he does well

  • Ricky says:

If we 75% back, that’s 15million, so in theory we only paid out 8million, I think that’s a great return,
