Hammers defender Ben Johnson is to be offered a new deal.
Until now the club has been ready to let him leave this winter and talks had been halted because of his poor form this season.
CandH Exclusive: Johnson to get new deal offer
But the club has now decided they can’t allow him to move on in the present circumstances and his performances when called upon recently have been excellent.
He had an eight our of ten display this afternoon when David Moyes sent him on as a midfield substitution and looked the best player in the Hammers team, really inspiring forward movement.
The manager needs to be congratulated on the move which had some – including yours truly – shaking his head that a player we have only seen as a defender was thrown on in a game we were trying to win.
Instead Ben had the best game we have seen from him in a very long time and could now be a Hammer for sometime into the future.
And when we approached it’s top contact on whether a new contract was still OFF the table we were told that was no longer the case.
He told CLARET AND HUGH EXCLUSIVELY: ” He was calm on the ball and gave other players real chances with his passing. He had a very decent game. We’ll offer him an improved deal to stay. We’ll need him for the Bournemouth game.
Good news, Ben has played well the last few times he has come on and deserves a better contract. It would be a real shame if we let him go.
