C and H raises Moyes concerns with board
Claret and Hugh today told the board where it stood on David Moyes .
After Moyes had revealed that the board and himself were making progress on a new contract we today e mailed and explained why we were concerned!
C and H raises Moyes concerns with board
Whilst making it clear that not everybody shared our views, the e mail explained that myself and many others consider the brand of football he plays is awful and that a manager who believes in playing entertaining football should replace the 60 year old Scot.
I explained too that we were going into our sixth game tomorrow still winless after five and that there is a decline in place.
The response I received suggested that I was a “glass half full ” man and it could equally be argued that the squad was undefeated after five games and were in the last 16 of the of the Europa Trophy.
However, it added that “we are not playing well and we desperately need Paqueta, but its not all doom and gloom.”
My response read: “Just can’t stand his football. I grew up with Ron and John, the West Ham way and became a fan because we were so entertaining. The stuff we are watching now is just awful. I’m not a pessimist and want us to win games but what I see from this bloke is dreadful.”
The reply was that a managerial replacement is a huge gamble and I was forced to say that Moyes is in my view an even bigger one.
I have to conclude on the back of that conversation we are likely to see Moyes re-appointed.
I fully agree with Ridders76. We clearly need to add to squad in the Summer when FFP regs enter new 3 year period so can splash the cash. January as usual was a waste of time because the players we want to push us on guess what they are too valuable to their clubs ambitions Mid season.
As for those not turning up at matches it’s barmy as club still has your cash. If yo tear up your season ticket then others will take your place!
I disagree. The team is inconsistent but we have had some really decent performances this season particularly early on when we were able to counter-attack at pace against teams. The stakes are now so high that if we get it wrong and get relegated, there is a good chance the club would never make it back. There are times where Moyes has been too prudent and equally that he has not always been able to develop players but, overall they are a tight group of players and if you look at the quality of the squad (albeit with some significant investment from the board) there is no doubt that it is one of the best “in terms of individual quality’ that we’ve had in many years. Yes we would all love to be playing dashing football all of the time, but there are very very few teams who can manage that on a consistent basis. I have good mates who are city fans who still complain about the fact that if they get a couple of goals up they keep ball and control the game thereafter and it’s really boring to watch. Overall Moyes has brought stability and has the faith of the squad and whether you give credit to Steitden or Moyes, the recruitment with the Rice money has been surprisingly good. Yes January has been dire but December was brilliant – difference is when our best players are fit and playing consistently we look a really good team. When two or even five of those players are missing was simply not as good
I agree with you Hugh, I won’t be renewing my season ticket if Moyes stays, watching us not able to pass and defending for 100 minutes a game is not worth the time or money.
We can afford to hire a progressive manager, like DeZerbi or Postecoglou or Alonso they are out there. Moyes is being bailed out consistently by Kudus and Paqueta, it’s not him that’s getting results it’s them. We have high quality players that with the right manager and system could pass to each other and create.
In fairness to Moyes he is maximising his style of football and the table doesn’t lie but I can’t see us finishing better than 8th as Chelsea and Utd are likely to rise over the rest of the season and potentially Brighton also so we may end up 9th or 10th.
David Moyes is old school, stubborn and unlikely to change his ways. David Sullivan is older and should be wiser but I have my doubts. Why does the board not see what all the West Ham fans can see, including fans overseas? That is that our team are playing (if you can call it that) a negative brand of football which is a huge turn-off for most of us. We have such talented players in our squad but you wouldn’t know it sometimes with the utter dross Moyes has them ‘playing’. Our team seems to only wake up in the second half of games after we have gone behind.
We let two players leave who have been playing as attackers on the left flank, yet we have not brought in any replacement. And still we have no striker! We have only brought in a central midfielder and now we seem to have too many of them on the pitch. Does Moyes have any master plan or is it all done on the fly? I despair when I see our team blowing our potential week in, week out. West Ham are embarrassing!
I know it’s easy for me to do this as I travel from Grimsby to watch my team , but I am not wasting money any more on fuel / food / drinks ( coffee) programs etc , to watch this absolutely diabolical style of football that Moyes insists on playing, we have the players to play more positive football ( even without Paqueta ) but Moyes still insists on playing sidewards & backwards………. I can’t do it anymore, so I won’t be travelling anymore until he has gone & that really hurts me because i have never felt this way since the dark day’s when Sammy Macillroy was in charge , I really do not get why the board would even consider giving him a new contract when we are playing this truly awful football ….
I would take a new contract as David Sullivan worrying more about David Moyes fans all over the media, especially Talksport, Sky, TNT, BBC and pretty much every newspaper, over West Ham fans. Either that or he thinks it’ll be much better for us traditional West Ham fans to shut up and piss off. Well it’s not gonna happen, and this would simply tell us the only way to get real changes at West Ham is to focus our attention on David Sullivan. It would show Moyes is the symptom, but Sullivan is the cause.
The biggest worry is that Steidten will up and leave. Why would he stick around and be hampered by a manager who undermines his plans for the club. He needs a manager who shares his vision around recruiting younger and more exciting players and controlling the game. Moyes is the polar opposite, ultra conservative, reactive and old school. Wants limited journeymen and a low block. With the lure of Anfield, bigger club and backing to build around his vision, it’s a foregone conclusion.
We had the strength to appoint him, but not the bottle to back him to be able to make the necessary changes.
If he gets another contract with us I’m done with football. I can’t watch that Neanderthal football no more. Even wins these days are a painful watch of smash and grab, only two games have I enjoyed and that’s Freiburg and Wolves. I really hoped that the DOF was a sign of ambition, alas it seems no.
It is a difficult decision but I think you are right. You can not reason with Moyes apologists. Just watching Villa demolish Sheffield Utd whilst thinking about all the games we have haemorrhaged points from. Best squad and best youth team I have seen since I started watching West Ham in the 70’s all being squandered. The glass in not half full. It is broken until Moyes is removed.
Let’s hope they wait til March, see where we sit in Prem and Europe – they might think differently then because the way we are playing it doesn’t look positive …or glass full ! It’s a real tough watch and this ‘small section’ of unhappy fans is growing massively…
Hope Moyes isn’t reappointed, I can’t stand watching west ham play this way, I want entertainment when I go. At the moment I go home after a game bored and frustrated, what with the cost of living I will have have to think twice about renewal of my season tickets.
Do you know how you get a Board to listen?
By having fans stop going to matches. That would stop Moyes getting re-appointed. A half empty stadium will do it.
That’s the best protest
