Calleri loan moves closer as Argentina exit Olympics

|

calleriArgentina were dumped out of the Olympics at the group stages yesterday by Honduras meaning Jonathan Calleri is now available to complete his loan deal to West Ham.

Argentina needed to win to secure a place in the quarters due to their inferior goal difference with the Hondurans after both had lost to Portugal and beat Algeria in their opening two group matches.

West Ham remain confident they will complete the deal despite reports that Barcelona want to hijack the loan. Spanish publication  Mundo Deportivo claims that the La Liga giants have identified West Ham-bound Jonathan Calleri as a target. The Barcelona director of professional sports Albert Soler revealed earlier this month that the technical secretary had travelled to South America with hopes of securing the services of a promising striker and it appears the media are putting two and two together and making five.

This deal was “agreed” some time ago and announced by the player himself. If Barca want to send someone all the way to Rio to speak to someone who is already committed, then that’s up to them but how do you sell a benchwarming reserve position to a developing talent? Barca you wasted your time and money.

I wonder if he’ll go ahead of Sakho in the queue, if it’s true that Sakho has come to his senses.
