David Moyes  ready to try tempting Craig Dawson into agreeing a new deal with West Ham in January.

An offer from Wolves in the summer had to be turned down when Issa Diop created an issue by demanding a move from the club and no replacement could be found.

And the Molineux bid – mixed with family issues which were believed to have persuaded him that a move further north was necessary – saw Daws come close to leaving the club.

Nayef Aguerd is expected to be fit by November, but Moyes is loath to lose the former Watford defender who was in tremendous form last season but has only just recovered from a thigh injury this term.

The manager is keen to offer the central defender a year’s deal with a 12-month option attached and insiders at the club has confirmed to ClaretandHugh that this is all set to take place.

We were told: “That is the more than probable likelihood come January.”

agreed. and with Cress and Coufal on a slight decline it solves that problem as well

Keeping Daws this season is as good as a new signing I would love us to operate three centre backs with Kehrer the most mobile, rather than two DCM’s. With a three we get down the flanks and Dec can play the Beckenbauer role (for the seniors among us!).
