CandH Exclusive: Hammers spending soaring

Exclusive by Hughie Southon

West Ham’ TOTAL spending will be heading towards the £200 million should they complete a deal for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

There can be few complaints from anywhere at the amount of cash the club is piling into the summer window as David Moyes starts his rebuild of a squad which was badly in need of new arrivals.

We understand the Hammers have thus far offered around £40 million for Paqueta which will probably have to rise by another £5 million plus extras with the French club wanting around £55 million to £60 million.

Hopefully such a compromise is on the cards as like every other deal agents fees have to be paid which pushes the price of deals higher and higher.

Thus far Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Flynn Downes, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer, Emerson and Gianluca Scamacca have arrived at a cost of around £120 million.

Add Paqueta at around £50 million plus those agents’ fees and we are close to or have hit £200 million.

So the money has been stumped up by GSBK and all that needs to be seen is whether it has been spent wisely by Moues and Newman which we will discover over the next few months.

  1. False figures being put out there. As David Moyes said yesterday, figures are being over inflated by the media. He mentioned Sky in particular.

  2. Is this another….. ‘we tried but just couldn’t get it over the line or done in time?’ Despite a 3 month window!!
Lots of cash splashed here and following our performance against Brighton hopefully it will be splashed in the right areas!!

    • I suspect the answer to your first point is “yes”. Moyes complains of having to bed players in. But targets should have been identified and realistic bids made and deals concluded weeks ago – just like proper clubs do! Although it massively pains me to say it, Spurs has done it right. As has Arsenal. But not this bunch of amateurs.

Three games in and we have no points and the only club in all four divisions with no goals. People say panic is premature, but turning the tide from the low confidence that a really bad start results in, is incredibly hard in the PL.

The Brighton game showed that if you high press a team low on confidence, they don’t know what to do, which is why our build up was so slow as the ball was passed along the back line and back to the goalkeeper with alarming and tedious regularity.

  3. Those in whom we hope to trust, have spent the money. Now they must either take the plaudits or accept the boos.
