Sonny Perkins

West Ham’s outstanding 19 year old striking prospect Sonny Perkins has 12 months left on his West Ham contract

The youngster has been linked with Leeds United and Aston Villa over recent days with his agent being unable to come to an agreement on wages with the Hammers.

Talks  have been going on for some weeks and it was thought at one point the front man who has yet to make a start for the first team was in the last weeks of his contract when actually he has 12 months left on his current deal.

The club want to extend it and as is always the case when young players are close to permanent first team squad inclusion, and are near the end of their contracts, huge wages are expected by the agents.

A key source inside the London Stadium told CandH exclusively tonight (Thurs): “He’s with us for another year.

The agent wants silly money to extend his contract .for a player who has yet to  play a first team game.”

I no longer look at updates on who the hammers are interested in signing either from the forums I have on my phone or the papers as its all smoke and mirrors with our manager and owners that we have seen in the past have proved to be false and has been mentioned before by others a deceivement to make it look like they tried.
Maybe they will get a couple of seasoned journeymen in on a free with no sell on value and perhaps one decent signing , but in the meantime our youth are there to move to the next level, or so we’re led to believe and at 19 years Perkins must at least be given his chance , first in the friendlies and also in the early cup rounds this year for an assessment that would surely window case his ability to those keen on him as to whether he’s at that premier level and worth the ‘punt’ whilst allowing the hammers the same assessment. But like many of our so called knocking on the door youth players , apart from cameo appearances nothing happens, so maybe sonny realises this and at 19 needs to move on, and who can blame him

Agents demands are a pain with young players as we have found in the past. What’s niggling me is that Villa and Leeds, both mid table and no European football, are not just ahead of us in all deals but even sniffing round our gold mine of young stars. The thing is if we don’t bring them on we will lose them clearly.
