CandH Hammers ratings at Brighton

Hughie gives out the marks

Areola: The one Hammer who came out of the game with enormous credit. Made several magnificent saves behind an absolutely awful defence. 9

Johnson: Truly woeful display. Bowen nudged for the penalty but is was down to the right back who was out of position for the pass into the box which led to it. Made one fine clearance from another cross but beyond that was caught out by the fast moving Albion forwards for 90 mins. His rating is based on the one clearance 1

Aguerd: No noticeable errors but always pressed to remain composed against a pressing team who had far too much for our back four and midfield 4

Oggy: Age really looked to have caught up with him and was caught out of position on two or three occasions and usually off the pace when they came forward which was ALL the time 3

Emerson: Struggled like the rest of them and never able to attack which appears to be his real strength 3

Rice: Yellow carded with a tackle from behind born out of total frustration, Not his day at all as the Hammers midfield was over-run and far worse than second best 4

Soucek: Started ok but was rapidly forced backwards as Brighton turned it on time and again before finally being subbed for Downes on 75 mins which is about as negative as Moyes could have got 3

Paqueta: On a day when we were screaming out for creativity he produced nothing but misplaced passes and lost tackles.. Bitterly disappointing 1

Benrahma: Ditto above by and large but Moyes as ever decided he was the one to hook when sending off Fornals. 1

Bowen Had one great chance but shot saved by keeper. Never any service or ability to get the ball of Brighton’s super slick players 2

Ings: Seems unfair to give him any rating at all as he was never allowed to show anything but on a couple of occasions found decent positions to be let down by lack of support 4

Subs

Fornals

Zouma

Downes

  1. No matter how poorly they play Soucek and Bowen start every game – no wonder the players have lost all respect for him. Why on earth are the board tolerating this. Moyes cost us the cup game midweek and today he picked a team that included Soucek and Bowen and left ings up top on his own. The guy is clueless. I felt sorry for Johnson today. I saw people’s commenting during the week that he deserves this and that, obviously those posters really need to reconsider their views. We played well in midweek because Fornals is a clever player. The manager thinks he is a winger but he just does not realise how important a role he can play in a midfield 3 with Rice and Paqueta. So sad to see these players being mis- managed. Moyes cost us both cups and it now appears that relegation is the only way he will get sacked. Sad state of affairs.
