After 147 appearances for West Ham, one former player has found himself without a club and is facing an uncertain future: News today of the possibility of a career lifeline must be very welcome for the 34 year-old who has been a ‘free agent’ and without a club since the summer, when he left Nottingham Forest after a two year spell.

Now it seems that Championship side Leeds United are considering giving a career lifeline to Cheikhou Kouyaté.

Leeds have found themselves in an injury crisis following serious injuries to key duo Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, with Gruev expected to be sidelined for several months and  Ampadu is, similarly, not expected back until 2025.

Reported in londonworld.com, ” Kouyaté was one of six senior players who left Premier League side Nottingham Forest at the end of last season after two years and 36 appearances for the club. The 34-year-old first arrived in England after signing for West Ham in 2014 and spent four years with the Irons before making the move to London rivals Crystal Palace in 2018.

“Back in 2022, it was reported that Kouyaté’s time at Selhurst Park ended after he failed to agree a new contract with the club, as he requested a two-year deal but the Eagles were only willing to offer another 12 months.”
Leeds United are apparently considering a handful of ‘free’ agents to help them through their crisis.
Would be great to see Kouyaté back in action, I’m sure he still has plenty of miles in those legs. He always seemed a willing, hardworking midfielder with a great attitude. All that remains now is for Leeds to decide if he can get upto fitness in time.
We wish him well.

Good luck to him… sad to see a player wanting to extend his career but without a club. It must be so hard to let go of the beautiful game when age creeps up on you.
