Carroll/Adrian: Unforgettable in such different ways

It’s ironic that two players of such different personalities should be departing the club at the same time!

Andy Carroll’s long anticipated departure from the London Stadium is absolutely the right decision but for goalkeeper Adrian there will be nothing but sympathy and best wishes.

Carroll has his fans but his career has been shrouded by injury and controversy as demonstrated when images appeared of him and Darren Randolph on what was alleged to be an all nighter back in 2016.

A club investigation followed but there was never a declared outcome after Slaven Bilic had told the players they could go out for a meal after some poor results.

Regular injuries and various headlines have blighted the man’s career whilst Adrian has remained entirely in the background causing no issues whatsoever despite being displaced by Randolph, Joe Hart and Lukasz  Fabianski.

Both had waved goodbye to the club after the last home game and the official announcement on their futures has now been made.

They are likely to hold a place in our hearts for entirely different reasons. We wish them both well!

  1. Good riddance to Carroll. I’ll always remember him trying to get away sharpish from the Boleyn after a match where he was sat in the stands watching as he was injured. His missus was driving and they were stuck at the exit of the players car park as Green Street was static but he wouldn’t wind his window down and sign autographs for the kids and gesticulated arrogantly at me when I suggested he should.
Adrian was always the exact opposite, a true gentleman and a proud hammer who was only too glad to spend time with the kids who hero worshipped him.

  2. Sad to see them go Adrian loyal, never complained, always out to promote the club. Andy, so sad he couldn’t keep match fit for us and England. It must have been a nightmare for him wondering where the next knock & long lay off was coming from?
He scored some great goals I will miss him and hope he finds something worthwhile, perhaps management etc?

  3. Andy Carroll possibly our worst ever signing. Technically awful. Thank the lord he has finally left
