Carroll defended again following criticism

|

Gold2David Gold has again leapt to the defence of much maligned Andy Carroll as the Twitter keyboard warriors make their feelings known about the big striker.

Gold is a fan of the player and has often sung his praises following some devastating injury blows. And after yesterday’s game against Stoke the co chairman was again fencing off criticism of the £17 million record signing.

He was quick to declare his admiration and trust for the player despite a tweet which said:  “ you can’t seriously believe Carroll is a £35 mio striker ? ! We will be lucky to get £5 mio for him ! Strikers score goals !!”

The facts show quite clearly of course that Carroll DID go from Newcastle to Liverpool for that sum and Gold said: “It’s still a fact that Andy went from Newcastle to L’pool for 35m he’s retuning from a long injury give him time. dg”

In fact l distinctly recall Sully expressing his regret at the fact that we had signed AC when we could have had Bony. l was just wondering if in the circumstances there could be any truth in the rumour that both Bilic and BFS have been forced to play AC due to his wages.

  • Muckracker says:

And l ask again, how come its always only Gold who speaks out for AC. Never heard a favourable word about him from Sullivan.

I’m really not convinced that Carroll fits in with the current way of playing under Bilic. Slav seems to be saying I’ll give you time to fit in, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I’ld like to see Antonio played in the Carroll role. He is much more mobile and would link up better with the midfield and apparently scored goals in that role in the past.

I would like to see Antonio tried as striker too, but at the moment we are short of players, so we need Carroll to get up to speed. I think he can do the job given time.

The guy is not yet match fit , and will only get match fit by playing matches ! Give him a chance and he will come good .

  • Michael Miller says:

I thought he was better yesterday, he didn’t have any real chances because he wasn’t given any real service.

He was often isolated without any real support which didn’t give him much of a chance – firing the ball up to him expecting him to do it all on his own is stupid. He needs crosses, pace on the ball and support.

Carroll has played very little football in the last 18 months, and is fighting his way back from nowhere. His first few games this season were terrible ( to be expected after such a lay off ), but now he has played a very decent game against Man U, and yesterday a better game against Stoke.
He is also learning a new managers requirements of him, so let’s give him a chance.
