Carroll for two more years? The fans react

It has emerged that West Ham hold a two year option on Andy Carroll’s contract which runs out next summer.
ClaretandHugh’s Facebook members have been giving their views on whether we should renew it!
O There will be a revolt if they exercise his option. His return is nowhere good enough for the wage he takes weekly. We should let him go and seek someone else.
O Surely it depends on the terms of any new deal? I’d have no problem at all with a low weekly basic wage with lots of add ons in terms of appearance fees and goal bonuses, etc, because when AC does actually play he is usually pretty good for us.
West Ham are in the process of becoming something more, something different to what we have been before. Arnie is the future, Snodgrass is not. Diop is the future, Collins is not. Carroll is part of our past. Good bye and thank you for the all too small but sometimes absolutely wonderful memories
I would like to keep the big man,on his day more than a handful for defences BUT he would have to accept a nominal salary with bonuses added on for appearances, goals scored etc
He has the best aerial ability in the world when he plays and it would be unwise to overlook that.
O If he should come back and do well I would offer him a pay as you play deal for a season, should he decline the offer then I would say thank you and goodbye.

  1. Getting rather tiring reading that some fans are saying let him go . The all important goals he scored to help stave off relegation have been all too easily forgotten by some . His arial threat is unquestionable and I’d say unequaled in not just the Premiership but across Europe . His hold up play is excellent and he is fully committed every game he plays , unlike some others in the squad . Ok , yes he is drawing wages whilst getting treatment but how many fans go sick and get sick pay . Sometimes even going sick just to attend a match or call in sick after a heavy weekend watching football . Carroll is constantly fighting to get fit and do his job , a point that is lost on some people . The options he could & would provide to Pelligrini are numerous and far outweigh his current lay off through injury sustained whilst giving it his all for West Ham United . Contract options are either here nor there as far as fans are concerned . We need him in our camp instead of playing against us , our defense couldn’t handle a fit Carroll . Heck , we can’t handle most teams defensively . Carroll even gets back and defends as well as getting forward . I think it’s harsh to judge him badly because of injury .

  2. Not good odds of him playing against us . He’d probably be out injured. If we had a fitter forward in his place who was available for most of the games, i believe he would get to double figures. This would be double Andy’s return in any season. He has scored 33 goals since 2013. It works out at 725k per goal and his time actually on the pitch has cost £2,824 per minute. That is an incredulous waste of money. We know he doesn’t get injured purposely but how much longer should the club accept this drain on the finances. If he was a racehorse with all his problems would you keep him in your string? I love watching the big guy play but there comes a time when common sense must prevail
