With the news yesterday coming from our source at West Ham that young forward Crysencio Summerville’s injury would take eight weeks to heal, like many Hammers fans I was cursing the young man’s bad luck: Just when he was getting established in the side and actually had his best game for West Ham in the new wing back role.
The set up that day looked refreshing with Summerville as a right wing back and Ollie Scarles on the left – quite the antidote to Julen Lopetegui’s flat, boring unadventurous sides.
Summerville is one month into his injury, so the headlines might be a touch worse than reality: Another four weeks of rehab to go which, in the meantime, West Ham are far better set up to cope with than just a couple of weeks ago. Jarrod Bowen has returned with a bang, Evan Ferguson has joined the ranks and the late Chelsea cameo from Luis Guilherme got him noticed by the hierarchy. Between this three, the gap and the workload can be shared with Summerville less missed.
Ferguson and Bowen will need careful management to build up game time: The last thing either need is a recurrence of their injuries or muscle strains as they build up match fitness. Expect to see more Guilherme pitch action from the bench in the next few weeks as the workload is spread around.
Lucas Paquetá too, should be making a return following his groin strain- and the ambitious set up which we’ve seen a tantalising glimpse of may return next week against Brentford. With Coufal and Cressie the surprise packages alongside Max ‘the rock’ Kilman, the West Ham squad suddenly doesn’t look quite as thin as it did when Bowen was injured in the Liverpool pasting in December. I’d say there is much to be optimistic about at West Ham.

We have heard it all before… window after window and we still haven’t got a proper striker. We tried is one of the better things that could go on Sullivans tomb stone . Lie after lie from the poison dwarf. If he had acted swiftly instead of trying to save money Potter would have had a chance to get the players he wanted. Now we are left with the bare bones and another visitor to the treatment room . Packet and summertime out for a couple of months and a new loan player who has been out injured for 18 months . But don’t forget we did get WP back !!

My understanding is that Summerville had a recent setback to the pre-existing hamstring so the clock is set back to zero.
