Several of West Ham’s brightest talents have excelled in recent years after loan spells away from the club. Indeed Freddie Potts often referred to his season at Portsmouth as being ‘the making of him’ as a Premier League player.
When loans haven’t worked for the player – as was the case for Lewis Orford who was largely ignored by Stevenage FC and made just one appearance- West Ham have acted to pull their young talented players out of situations where they are continually overlooked.
Kaelan Casey, similarly, was pulled out of a Swansea loan spell when it was clear he wasn’t going to get time on the pitch, and has now made t appearances for Leyton Orient.
On loan Hammer George Earthy, however, is struggling. The young Hammers attacking midfielder has returned to the site of his successful spell last season – Bristol City.
However with a different Manager in place this term, Earthy is struggling to get game time: The West Ham loanee was left out of City’s match day squad on Tuesday evening According to the bristolpost.co.uk:
“George Earthy “has to be a little bit patient,” [new manager] Gerhard Struber has admitted whilst explaining his decision not to select the attacking midfielder as part of his Bristol City squad to face Wrexham.”
Earthy had been on the bench for Bristol’s two previous games and has not played since January. A challenging time for one of West Ham’s bright up and coming youngsters who only left east London to try and get game time after struggling back from summer injury.
I would call him back immediately. He did not even make the squad last night which is an insult. I’ve seen Bristol City a few times this season and he’s certainly good enough for them. The problem lies with their manager, if he doesn’t rate George then he simply won’t get any game time which is just a waste of everyone’s time and money
We should remember that George Earthy had his pre season interrupted by injury
There are many reasons for criticizing our club and particularly the board who appointed both Loppy and Potter – but sometimes when it comes to home grown young players the problem could be that the player is not actually good enough (remember Harrison Ashby) – and it seems that Ben Johnson doesn’t make the Ipswich first team in the Championship (I know he played in the FA cup but whenever I check the Ipswich team for league games he seems to be on the bench
So let us see how George Earthy does next season with a proper pre season hopefully injury free
Looks like George has been duped. Gerhard Struber obviously does not realise why George is on loan at Bristol City.
If George wanted to be patient and wait for an opportunity to be included on the pitch, he did not need to be a gift to BC. He would have gained this much experience on the West Ham bench.
Nobody’s fault for this ridiculous position other than the Bristol City manager.
There’s being patient waiting to make a move and stagnant having your bum glued to the bench.
His loan period will be up having gained nothing.
Get him and Marshall (if he wants to come back) return to whu.
Happens so many times loan clubs should be obligated to give them stipulated appearances.
