Chav corner is to be recreated at the Olympic Stadium next to the away fans in the lower south stand in Stratford.
The current Chav corner at the Boleyn Ground is located in the corners of Sir Trevor Brooking lower and Alpari West Stand and is one of the best places for atmosphere and singing in the ground.
West Ham are hoping to recreate that atmosphere next to the away fans again in their new stadium.
A Liverpool supporting reservation centre sales advisor confirmed to me earlier this week that current season ticket holders will need to upgrade from band 4 to band 3 to stay in the area affectionately known as Chav corner. Although Band 4 will reduce to £499 at the OS, band 3 will be £599 meaning those who want to be located in that lower area next to the away fans will need to fork out an extra £100 or be forced to move to the upper tiers to enjoy the £499 band 4 price reduction.
Even at £599 it will cheaper than this season Band 4 season ticket at £651 and last season’s at £620.
My season ticket is in Sir Trevor Brooking Lower and tomorrow (Thursday) I go to the West Ham Stratford reservation centre for my 12pm appointment to renew my season ticket for the Olympic Stadium. I will let you know how I get on, both good and bad.
Yes Band 3 at the OS £599 is still cheaper £52 than the current band 4 at the Boleyn Ground £651 and £21 cheaper than the previous seasons which saw a price freeze at £620 for renewals. The only bit they should of mentioned upfront is that some season ticket holders would need to upgrade one band to get a comparable seat. There was a big fanfair in the media about the price reductions but no mention of up-banding.
The new soundbite from them seems to be ‘A comparable view for a comparable price’ There are winners and losers but as always transparency is the key to this process.
What the article DOESN’T say is whether upgrading to band 3 (= £599pa) will be cheaper than current seats at Boleyn. If it is still cheaper, then it is still pretty good, isn’t it? I already have had my res centre visit. It was pretty good. I am band 3 at Boleyn so I am saving about £200+, but don’t worry; I will be well away from you guys in the upper bowl along with all the other old farts… (& of course I gas ’em out good and proper. …that’s OUR special little atmosphere!…loving it!). I went to the Barbarians v Samoa match and was pleasantly surprised by the OS; I had suspected the distance from the pitch would be awful, and the OS would turn out to be a disaster…but I think it’s OK. At the Boleyn, I am at the front of the West Stand level with the goal. My OS seats will be farther away and lower down BUT they are still pretty good. I’m now OK with the OS, which I certainly wasn’t before my visit. There are some videos on YouTube which you should check out. Good luck, ladies!
Nigel, I am in your group so you will be the story 😉
