“Cheeky bid” might just be inspired Hammers business

Yesterday’s Claret and Hugh article suggested the Irons might not be averse to trying a cheeky bid for an ‘unhappy Tottenham flop” in the coming winter window.

Not all share that opinion: Consider an alternative description of the same player from today’s Yorkshire Evening Post who label him “Leeds United 2024/25 Championship title hero Manor Solomon”.

The ‘hero’ description offers something of a different narrative – from the ‘Post – who are understandably concerned that ‘their hero’ may be about to be transferred to one of Leeds’ likely relegation rivals.

According to their report:

“Solomon played a decisive role in last season’s promotion triumph after joining the Whites on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in 2024, registering an impressive 10 goals and 12 assists in 39 league games. The last of those goals is now etched into Leeds folklore, with his final-day added-time winner at Plymouth Argyle ensuring the Championship title went to Elland Road instead of Burnley.

Leeds were interested in a potential permanent move for Solomon over the summer but after early-summer links, decided to look elsewhere and signed Noah Okafor from AC Milan for £18million. The Israeli international instead joined Villarreal on loan for the season in the final minutes of the transfer window.“

Solomon – could be an inspired bit of business for West Ham

There may well be more to Solomon that being ‘just another winger’ – certainly Leeds fans would jump at the chance of taking Solomon back. Could just be an inspired bit of business should the Hammers manage to pull it off.

The fact that Crystal Palace, apparently, also tried to sign Solomon on deadline day illustrates they may also know something about the potential lying within the 26 year old.

Thomas Frank appears to have made up his mind to allow the player to leave once his loan spell to Spain is cut short – which could just play into West Ham’s hands.
