Chelsea 2-1 West Ham: Player Ratings

Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

Areola:6 Precious little to do in the opening 45 mins until a wonder save just before half time from Palmer. Excellent save from Mavropanos on 76 mins to thwart and own goal.

Coufal:7 Nice block on Palmer at the end of some good Chelsea build-up play. Fully justified his selection. Good block on the line wasn’t enough to stop Chelsea’s equaliser.

Kilman:6 Good chase & block on Jackson following a long ball over the top. Should have done better with his header as Chelsea made it 1-1.

Cresswell:7 Did well to cut out a dangerous Sancho cross. Great long pass to Kudus produced a good chance.

Wan Bissaka:6 Quiet first half but made a couple of decent runs forward before stepping up in the second half to become a menace to the opposition defence. Incredibly unlucky to deflect a cross from Palmer past Areola to make it 2-1.

Soucek:7 Blocked decent Sancho shot and like so many of the team looks to pass the ball far more quickly than under former managers. His header was vital in West Ham’s opener. Like so many of the team, he put in a committed shift full of blocks, tackles and forward passes.

Irving:6 Neat & tidy with his passing and looked to find a teammate where possible. Shot over with a half volley. Started to make some rash decisions as the home team piled on the pressure after 65 mins.

Soler:7 Played his part by pressing very well from the start. Has excellent technique and made an incredible solo run n the second half which showed real determination.

Emerson:6 Not massively involved in the opening part of the game but played his part as the team kept Chelsea at arms length. Grew into the game really well.

Kudus:7 More considered in his passing than I’ve seen before. Dribbled well and helped out defensively. Such quick feet. Gave the ball away unnecessarily on 30 mins which resulted in a chance for the home team. Played his part in the opening goal for Bowen as his physicality forced Colwill into a poor pass. Won some timely freekicks which gave the defence time and space to reset. Displayed his greedy side towards the end of the game but overall did very well.

Bowen:8 Immediately looked sharp on his return to the first team. Took his goal with the accuracy of a sniper. Bowen was systematically fouled throughout the game including the build up to Chelsea’s equaliser. Caicedo was never discouraged from fouling the Hammers captain as the home team put his recently recovered fractured foot to the test.

Chelsea 2-1 West Ham: Bowen was in fine form at Stamford Bridge

Substitutes

Scarles:5 On for Emerson in the 71st min.

Mavropanos:4 Replaced Coufal in a double substitution.

Ings:5 76th min sub for Soler

Orford:5 Replaced Irving

Guilherme:6 On for Cresswell as an 86min replacement and looked sharp.

7 for Cresswell? The **** is absolutely awful. Wasted a free kick with a lame and ludicrous shot wide, and blasted over instead of passing. The sooner the over 30 old age footballers are pensioned off the better.

Potter must realise that Ings is not an option anymore

  • K says:

Kudus shocking the way he gives the ball away in dangerous areas, dribbling in our defensive third and barely getting away with it, dangerous long passes backwards and into midfield in our defensive third. Nearly cost us at least a couple of goals in the first half alone. Someone needs to tell him to only pass forward. Yes heā€™s great going forward and it doesnā€™t matter as much if he gives the ball way in the opposition half just donā€™t keep doing it at the back.

Bang on, Kudus is a liability at times with very little football brain. He is a player that needs a lot of coaching to turn him from a one trick pony to what could be a magician.

Scarles and Orford were decent for the time they played, Ings was awful, he’s finished. So just a question , where does your ratings start before the subs come on? So if it starts at say 7/10 before they start then go up or down? Just curious.

AWB was excellent again, might have had the deflection for the OG but won’t hold that against him, he was a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Referee -5 out if 10 he gave us virtually nothing all game and Chelski everything, Caicedo should have been sent off the amount of fouls he committed, likewise Collwill and how they can. say the foul on Bowen was too far back is beyond me, if he isn’t fouled they can’t start the attack which was also a single phase, the referees are as always costing us 15 – 20 points a season.

Having read several player ratings for today I would like to get all the writers in the same room at the same time and ask why they gave their ratings as some of them are so wide apart it is almost like they were watching different games.

5 for Ings? Did you not see his shot near the end which was supposed to go over the keeper and ended up nearly hitting the corner flag! Why on why do we continue to bring him on when he offers nothing.

Guilherme looked sharp in the 11 minutes he was given with an excellent cross to the far post with his first touch. Would be ridiculous to let him leave when he has had so few opportunities.

Emerson was lucky not to concede a penalty when he literally wrestled Cuccarella to the ground from the corner. First Chelsea goal should have been disallowed after a clear foul on Bowen. 24 seconds later Chelsea score. The VAR rules are clear there is no no time limit or number of passes during the attacking phase. Another decent performance from the team and excellent goal from Bowen.

Decent effort but I thought Chelsea might shade it once I saw Summerville, Paqueta and Alvarez out.

Guillherme’s cameo showed he isn’t overawed on the big stage.

Give him minutes, deserves it more than a pointless Ings.

      • Esexiron42 says:

100% agree. Ings shouldn’t even be on the subs bench after that pathetic attempt to shoot over the keeper which nearly ended up hitting the corner flag!

Guilherme only had 11 minutes and put in a fantastic cross to the far post with his first touch and a great attacking run. Give the lad more opportunities from the start and he will show what a quality player he can be.

  • Tyso says:

Decent effort by the lads and looking a much improved side. Clear foul on Bowen before Chelseaā€™s first goal, then Cucurella clearly offside was robbery but thatā€™s football. Onwards and upwards. Absolutely grouse to see Bowen back and on the score sheet! 11 days now to get Ferguson integrated and hopefully Todibo fit and interested again. Sorely missed Alvarez too. COYI!
