CL final in Stratford?

The Champions League final could be played at the London Stadium.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has confirmed that the capital is ready to host the final if it is forced to move from its slated location in St Petersburg.

There has been military action between Russia and Ukraine, potentially ruling out the prospect of the game being played in Russia.

Khan believes that hosting such a game is a “privilege” and believes that Russia should be stripped of that right, per The London Evening Standard.

It remains to be seen where the game could be played, though, with the London Stadium a potential frontrunner if the game is moved.

The fixture falls on May 28th, and that rules out Wembley as a venue, as that stadium is hosting the League Two and Championship play-off finals over that weekend.

Guns N Roses are scheduled to play a concert at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the same day, while the other options would be the Emirates, where travel links are not exactly brilliant, Stamford Bridge and the London Stadium.

It remains to be seen if this will have to be considered but Chelsea are the current holders of the competition; they could reach the final again, so Stamford Bridge seems an unlikely choice.

East London could well be given the go-ahead then.

  1. The Allianz Arena Munich is also in the mix. EUFA should wait and see who reaches the final before deciding where to have it. Make if fair for fans!
