I think this past weekend has virtually confirmed our relegation. As an eternal pessimist where West Ham are concerned I’ve felt all season we would go down. The recent upturn in form seems more down to fortune and the fact that we’ve played not so good teams. Yes there’s been a bit of spirit, but that spanking by Brentford finishes it off for me, confirmed by Spurs’ win last night. Yes, we didn’t have the luck against Brentford (I get the question marks over the pen decision that wasn’t given) but then didn’t that work in our favour against Everton?) but we conceded 3 goals against a team that hasn’t exactly been on form recently. If our ‘stars’ were that good and that fired up, we’d have come away with at least a point. As it stands, we’re in the relegation spots because that’s where we deserve to be. And let’s face it, we’ve been down that end of the table for a large part of the season. And we play like a side that knows it’s not good enough. We will not get anything from Arsenal or Newcastle which makes the Leeds game a probable dead rubber. There is a deep seated malaise at the club and the deterioration has been there for a while now. The board, the ground, the poor recruitment (in every respect) all to blame. But the worst thing? The wilful ignorance of that fact and failure to address it long before now. We’re doomed to at least 1 season in the Championship and unless certain people wake up to the fact, we’ll be there for a while. Still, no VAR to worry about!
