The deadline day outgoings have been confirmed: West Ham’s defensive duo Nayef Aguerd and Emerson Palmieri are confirmed ‘sold’ on deadline day. Lewis Orford is confined heading to Stevenage on loan. Guido Rodriguez’ agent was apparently reported as heading to Spain in advance of a move – quite how his agent was going to take his medical by proxy who can tell: So you’d question the veracity of that piece of journalistic work.
A last- minute loan signing is still considered do-able as our club source has confirmed, whilst the Hammers work on a deal in the last couple of hours of the transfer window: “Probably” being the operative –but you’d have to say somewhat unlikely -word used in response to Claret and Hugh’s question mid-afternoon about a loan signing arrival to replace Nayef Aguerd.
Igor Julio is the likely player as West Ham attempt a last minute hijack of Crystal Palace’s deal: Givemesport.com even reporting in the last 30 minutes that the Hammers have succeeded – but there’s no official word as yet:
“There has been a major development… Igor, who was due to join Crystal Palace on loan from Brighton – that move is off, I am told. As a consequence, it is looking like he is instead going to West Ham United”:
Late drama indeed. Bear in mind that by the time we get these reports they’re a couple of hours behind – so a last minute deal with Julio could still, just about, be completed. As Alex Ferguson put it – squeaky bum time!
Being the veteran of loads of transfer window late nights it is quite weird having a 7pm cut-off. In any case, quite why clubs leave their activity until the last 24 hours is absolutely beyond me.
If West Ham fail with a deal for a fourth centre back today, then the ‘free’ markets beckon: Centre back and free agent Viktor Lindelof has been snapped up by Aston Villa so that talent pool is a little smaller.
Alternatively, quite possibly the Hammers hierarchy are relying on the fact that new signing and midfielder Soungoutou Magassa is a competent centre back and played much of his early career there so could – as was Edson Alvarez – be deployed there in an emergency.
Wasn’t Julio the player who was brought on in Prague 2 years ago in our historic cup win and was left for dead by Bowen as he slotted home our trophy winning clincher? I seem to remember his manager going mad at him for trying to play Bowen offside, and was then eventually sent to Brighton on loan. Not an auspicious beginning if he joins. For goodness sake get Charlie Cresswell annd Axel Disasi instead.
Not excited at all about this. Why is it proving so difficult to sign Cresswell for £15m?
Fingers crossed we get someone in and keep Magassa for DM duties. Him with Fernandez and a resurgent Paqueta would be a major improvement for our midfield. I also wish to apologise to Callum Wilson for doubting the wisdom of his signing, thought he was outstanding yesterday. Just got to hope he stays fit for most of the season.
⁹calum Wilson is no mug
Give him the ball in the right areas and it’s in the back of the net.things looking a bit rosier but inevitably injuries are going to kick in and with a smaller squad so will fatigue.dont want to sound too negative but we will get done by spurs badly and it will all ki ck off again.why would you wait until 3 hours before end of window?.that’s what you have too when you go looking at the basement bargains.this club is in a shocking state.rotten to ththcore.the people at the top couldnt run a welk store
So I imagine Igor Julio will be back up to Kilman or he plays on the left of a three with Kilman in the middle and Mavrapanos or Todibo on the right. All ball playing centre backs and not aerial clearance types of the James Collins mold. Thus worries me since we haven’t got a dominant aerial Centre back and that’s where our Achilles heel seems to be.
I’d much rather Charlie Cresswell. I feel like we need a bit of aggression and someone who can clear the lines (a Collins or Dawson type) to play alongside our current lot, and not so much need for another ball-playing defender. But, regardless, we do need someone, so if the selling club won’t part with Cresswell, I guess this has to do.
So we can get Charlie Creswell for less than what we get for aguard and they won’t do it. unbelievable
So is this Igor Julio any good or is he just a last minute panic punt?
“yes” to both
