Club are “Open to cashing in”: Nuno’s £8 million West Ham upgrade

Having brought two forwards to London Stadium over the first weekend in the transfer window, the Hammers apparently now focus on the other key area which needs strengthening – although too late to ward off the likely onslaught from Nottingham Forest tonight.

Worried supporters will have to endure another likely Kilman – Mavropanos horror show as Jean Clair Todibo is still unlikely to be fit and Nuno isn;’t brave or daft enough to bow to fan pressure and create new Magassa – Soucek defensive pairing that some Claret and Hugh readers – probably after an excess of new year revelry – have suggested.

Oscar Mingueza could be an upgrade for Vladimir Coufal

Oscar Mingueza from his Barca days

Defender recruitment now takes centre stage and reports this morning focus on one player linked last summer – according to football-talk.co.uk who report that Oscar Mingueza is back on Nuno’s shopping list. The right-sided centre back who can also play as a full back was first mooted in the summer but is now back in the crosshairs:

“West Ham are ‘keen’ on signing Mingueza. The Spaniard’s future at Celta is currently uncertain as his existing deal is set to expire at the end of this season.

The Spanish side remain in talks with the player to extend his deal, and if an agreement can’t be found, they could be open to cashing-in on him before the February 2nd transfer deadline for around £8m to avoid losing him for free next summer.”

“technically gifted’ is how Mingueza, 26 was described – along with our own research last summer suggesting “he does not crumble under pressure” which would sure be a valuable asset this winter. From the weekend’s showing, West Ham United e have plenty of squad members who don’t seem to have that very attribute.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

No calamity Killman . He’s either going to bump our GK or dive in and give away a PK .

Thank goodness your news items get to the point. I cannot read Hammers News as all the articles do is beat about the bush and waste the readers time.

We need defenders that attack the ball. Todibo has looked much better this season, but Kilman and Mavropanos are hesitant and make big mistakes as a result. No nonsense CB over a ball playing one is what is needed right now! Soucek could definitely do a job, he’ll put his head anywhere!

I agree think Soucek could do a job. Loves West Ham and gives his all. Could compliment Todibo. Even Magassa worth a shout. Bring Fernandes back into a 2 man midfield with Potts and go for it with a frontline or Paqueta, Pablo, Taty and Bowen. Nothing to lose. I like Dinos, gives his all and always willing to speak to press after games to front up but needs a strong partner.

I’d like to see Igor Julio – maybe he has limitations, dunno, but he is not war weary the way Kilman might be and shows spirit and I think Dinos plays for the team too and can be vocal. This helps in a CB pairing – Dinos organizer whoever plays beside him.

Against Fulham I thought Kilman was very good and several times brought the ball out of defence very effectively driving team forward – can understand manager be impressed, but 2 matches since, made important errors. He has been playing regularly for several seasons – rest?

To mirror other comments made on C&H, congrats to the board on acting early, getting in younger players (Pedro) too and some experience or know-how (Castellanos, Mingueza). Glad said no to Traore, because of his age as well as inconcistency and must bear next season in mind too.

Also I’m hoping it shows a balance in decision making between board (acting as sporting director & longer term) and the manager who has not since left in a huff. It is a difficult balance. NES is in charge, but he does not run the club – hands off till you have been at WHU 3+ years and shown something.

Anyone apart from Kilman !!!!!!!! He is single handedly taking us down

  • Hammeroo in a hurry says:

Get Oscar Mingueza in yesterday please!

  • NoMoMoney says:

Who’s his agent ?… just kidding. Not sure that position is a priority right now, West Ham have Todibo, Dinos, ABW, KWP and Golambekis, who all play right-side of defence?

    • Whippethammer says:

He’s a CB. We NEED preferably two, one left and one right. Atm ANYTHING is better than what we have…….are you really saying we don’t need CBs?
