Club confirms Soucek injury news

|

West Ham have officially confirmed that Tomas Soucek suffered a low grade injury last night and is likely to be out for approximately three weeks.

Claret and Hugh confirmed earlier in the day – ahead of the club statement – that the Czech midfielder could be out for up to a month.

The Czech Republic international sustained a hip flexor injury during the narrow defeat at Premier league leaders Liverpool last at Anfield.

Head of Medical Services Richard Collinge told WHUFC.com: “Tomas over-extended his hip flexor muscle but the scan was positive and revealed only a low grade issue. We hope to have him back before the international break in March.”

New signing Soucek was showing great promise breaking the Hammers six year running record against Manchester City covering eight miles in the Premier League game.  And he was a key fgure in the Hammers reshaped midfield again last night until picking up the injury.

Hwever, his absence could well present an oportunoty for last night’s goalscorer Pablo Fornals who was impressive when coming on as sub for the Czech.

He signed on loan for Slavia Prague for a £3.5m loan fee with an obligation to buy this summer if West Ham retain their Premier League status.
