Club wait for fan reaction to blow over

|

sabWest Ham have postponed a fans meeting for a second time claiming they have been asked for more time by fans to arrange a more formal meeting in October.

Following events at the home game against Watford at the London Stadium in September, the club initially called a Supporters Advisory Group meeting on Tuesday 20th September, later extending it to supporters who had emailed a founders feedback email address.

The club later postponed the Tuesday meeting saying they had been asked for more time by supporters and the meeting was re-scheduled for Monday 26th September.  On Friday this too was cancelled and rescheduled to Wednesday 5th October.

The club said “This decision has been taken in response to a significant number of supporters wanting to attend expressing their desire for a more formal group set up to discuss issues with more members of the Board in attendance. So with the help of an independent selection committee, the Club has decided to appoint key advisors representing key sections of the supporter-base, whose role it will be to act as representatives of supporters and meet with the Board on a regular basis.”

With things going wrong both on and off the pitch some have suggested the club are more likely to be waiting for things to blow over to allow tempers and moods to calm down before having a potentially inflammatory and possible aggressive meeting with angry fans venting their frustrations.  They could also do without the bad PR after a string of stories in the media at the moment West Ham bashing at every opportunity. I am sure they don’t want to air their dirty washing in public at this sensitive time.

In a world where every mistake they make and every issue is broadcast live on social media, they will be hoping an incident free game on Sunday and hopefully a much needed win to improve the moods of supporters frustrated by actions both on and off the pitch.
