The West Ham United Player Awards 2017, in aid of The Academy, will take place on Tuesday 9 May 2017 at The InterContinental London, and will see our most famous son take his rightful place in club history.

Announcing the decision on the club’s official website they say: “No figure better illustrates West Ham United’s proud and rich heritage than MoorostripBobby Moore. And at this historic time, it is more important than ever to remember our traditions and carry the glories of our past into the dreams and aspirations of our future.

The Club has long since held the belief that, in this momentous inaugural year at the iconic London Stadium, there could not be a more deserving and appropriate choice for the award than the most iconic player in our 121-year history.”

The 2017 awards will be held at The Arora Ballroom at The InterContinental, in the shadow of London’s O2 Arena, in the company of Slaven Bilic and the first team squad and celebrate the life and career of our iconic number six.

Totally agree – I too saw Bobby play a great number of times and revere his memory – this pointless ‘award’ smacks of opportunism trying to cash in on his name, especially after the shabby way in which the Club treated it’s greatest son – shame on West Ham.

“…the iconic London Stadium.” Never believe your own hype.

The vast majority of awards are completely pointless and a total waste of time and this one is right down there with the rest. I loved Bobby as much as the next West Ham fan and feel privileged to have watched him play so many times. However, this award really is pointless, especially avccompanied by the information that we can witness it’s announcement with a table for only £2,750. Oh, plus VAT of course. And by the way, you can book your table by phone at 10p a minute plus, your network charges.

So sad that it comes down to this.
