Collins plunged into deep end

|

CollinsJames Collins learned late on Friday that he would be playing at Burnley on Saturday afternoon  having had just one training session because of a groin injury!

The 31-year-old defender admitted: “I’d had just one session because of the groin injury which is why I wasn’t in the Wales squad.Collins through

“I trained on Friday and ‘Tomks’ didn’t come through it, so the gaffer told me I was in, shoved in at the deep end.”

Experience got him through the 90 minutes and afterwards he declared:  “I was fit injury wise, but lung wise I was struggling at the end.

That was to be expected, but I was just glad to get out there, it seems like I have been out forever.

“Having been sent off against Tottenham, I then had a couple of niggles, so it was just great to be playing again.”

“It was a tough game,” he said. “They put us under a load of pressure in the first half and we never really got out of the blocks like we have been doing.

“The crowd got behind them and they did hit the crossbar, but I thought we defended well in the first half and we knew that if we weathered the storm, we would have the chance to win it with the two boys up front.”

“The strikers are unbelievable. I haven’t seen too many better deliveries and two better headers in a long time.

“They seem to have everything at the moment, they are scoring all sorts of goals, so long may that continue.

“If we keep defending well and they keep scoring, it could be a very successful season.”
