Come on…Everton aren’t our natural enemies!

By Pete Ellis
Everton-fans-WembleyI  spend a fair amount of time in Liverpool as my office is based 10 mins from Lime street.
I was up there on Tuesday, and can say with confidence that I have given the red half of the city plenty of stick throughout the course of the day. All friendly of course.
The blue half of the city is the one which seems to have caught the attention of Hammers fans over the course of the season and with non stop arguing and abuse on social media, I wondered where the venom had come from this  season.
Sure , McCarthy chopping down Payet had us rightly outraged, and players rejecting Everton for West Ham would have irked their fans.
Perhaps the Hammers and Leicester out-performing the “best of the rest” has also annoyed them?
I wonder if it’s more to do with Everton’s frustrations that their title of being the best side out of the top 4 is but a long distant memory.
There was no malice from the various guys i spoke to. On the contrary, the general consensus was that West Ham were their favoured London club. (I can’t print to comments on Arsenal Spurs or Chelsea on this site!)
I think it’s a case of the McCarthy incident, and Martinez claiming HE rejected Payet and Ogbonna – not the other way around.
Martinez is trying to show a position of strength because he is not well liked by the guys I spoke to.
In all honesty, I think this spiky relationship is down to those two incidents, as ultimately, we are both clubs that have suffered from big mouthed neighbours that have enjoyed success while we haven’t.
Every fan will stick up for their club, but having sat down with some of Everton’s finest, they seemed to cringe just as much as we do at some of the childlike stuff you see posted.
Make no mistake, they love getting one over “cockneys” (a term used incorrectly for any London club) and In turn, we want to do them for once at Goodison.
We are rivals, but I don’t think we are quite at the stage of cancelling all police leave when we play!
Now, let’s roar our boys on to victory… and enjoy the fallout on social media in the aftermath!

  1. It’s all down to being honest, that is the problem with many on site arguments,
Martinez is stupid defending ridiculous tackles and even commenting on transfers that don’t go through,
Then when fans from other clubs come on your site and talk bollcs you raise to the bait,
One play has undone us for 5 games, yes we would have loved to have signed him but he did not want to play for us,probably at the time because of how we played and he did not fancy watching the sun and moon all the time waiting for the ball to come back into orbit,
I admire there club for trying to do it the right way as a kid you would want to play for them because they give you a chance early and as long as they git the right price they allow them to move on to bigger clubs,
But now we need to go and get points and walk off the pitch with no injuries

  2. Everton used to be my fav Northern club (if you can have one), probably because of my dislike for Liverpool. However, it is not just McCarthy’s tackle on Payet, there has been a lot of niggle in recent games against them, and even nastiness at some of the games played at their ground. It is not normally in their nature so I am not sure what their problem is with us? It can’t be because we beat them so often!

  3. Nice belittling little piece.

We don’t hate you. We’re not jealous of you. You’re not a “rising force” to us. You’re not really competition to us. You’ve have a good season, you’re entitled to one. We dislike the fact that you continually moan about McCarthy’s tackle. Bad tackles happen, you move on. We didn’t complain the next day about Spurs’ tackle on Cleverly, which was equally as bad and set him out for the same amount of time, let alone for four months afterwards.

We don’t “love getting one over on the cockneys”. You’re not of importance to us. West Ham is just a club, situated in London, whom we often acquire three points from.

Some of our fans were upset that we missed out on Ogbonna, but he’s gone where he can get more money and playing time. Given his performances, we are more than content that you have him. Payet is a good player, but he isn’t going to fit in our team. He’s not going to displace Barkley and thus, giving a soon-to-be 29 year old a contract longer than five years, on £125,000 p/w, is not worth it. Bryam seems talented, but again, he’s not going to fit in our squad. Would he displace Coleman? Absolutely not within the next four years.

You’re all making a lot of noise and has been falling on (mostly) deaf ears, but it’s getting tiresome. You’re a nice little club, appreciated by many outside of London. Don’t start acting like Liverpool, challenging them for everyone’s least favourite team (excluding rivalries).

  4. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

  5. Always felt sorry for Everton fans Living in the shadow of their more illustrious neighbours for decades. We’re a club on the up, moving to one of the best stadiums in the world, based in the capital and that’s why players opt for us instead of Everton.

  6. Seriously, I think Everton fans are scum, worse even than the Spurs mob – always complaining, raising the roof over every 50-50 ball in some vain hope that they will somehow influence the referee to give them a decision. I’ve never witnessed a more unsporting set of fans, complete trash, baying like feral hounds at every little thing. The only thing I like about that squalid club is the Winslow Arms, which used to be a decent matchday drinker (haven’t been in years so don’t know if it’s still the same), and Romelu Lukaku who would be the ideal addition to our squad in the summer.
