Competition for right-back – Report

West Ham are facing competition in the race to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The noted transfer insider reports that the Hammers are exploring a potential deal to sign the right-back, who has struggled for minutes under manager Erik Ten Hag.

Wan-Bissaka has only played four minutes of Premier League football this term, coming on as a late substitute against Liverpool.

Romano reports that the Hammers are interested in signing the former Crystal Palace right-back, potentially on loan, but there is rival Premier League interest.

Both Wolves and Palace have also been namechecked as potential suitors ahead of the January window.

Speaking on his own website, as per Read West Ham, Romano said: “Manchester United are trying to find a solution for Wan-Bissaka in order to let him leave. Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace remain interested.

Main priority on right-back situation remains to extend Dalot’s contract. Talks will take place soon.”

Wan-Bissaka has flopped since his £45m move to United and has failed to develop in the position, with Diogo Dalot seen as the first-choice right-back by Ten Hag.

It remains to be seen if Palace eventually make a play to bring the defender back to Selhurst Park, and one has to think they would be in pole position if they did make a move.

  1. As far as I remember he wasn’t too bad at Palace- Hasn’t he made the England squad a few times? Don’t think we’d get him for less than 30-35 mill tho. Surely he’d prefer the LS to Selhurst Park which looks like our old chicken-run.LOL

  2. Seriously! He just isn’t that good. When we have Coufal, Harrison Ashby and Ben Johnson in that position why? This is classic Moyes lose a great prospect like Ashby and then overpay for someone who hasn’t made it elsewhere.

  3. We definitely need a good Right-back – I’ve seen Wan-Bissaka and thought he was pretty good, particularly as a loan signing! 👍

I do feel that Ashby hasn’t been given a fair chance – and that’s all down to Moyes! 🤬

  4. Are we in for him in January, Dave? I saw your piece on Moyes denying any January activity.I blame Moyes entirely if we lose Ashby. Also for not developing Johnson fully as right back but using him as a back four fill in. Even England capped full backs are not being asked to fill in at centre back! Given all that slapstick, Wan Bissaka would be welcomed!!

  5. Sounds like a loan deal to the end of the season with an option to buy – a stumbling block would be if either Wolves or Palace put in a bid to buy in Jan. Good to hear that nobody’ll be leaving then either. Johnson can be used as a LB-that would leave Coufal, Kehrer and Ashby
either as RB or RWB. Got to sort Ashby’s contract tho.
