Virtually the whole West Ham fan base would have breathed a collective sigh of relief on deadline day as the Hammers signed a defender to bolster their fragile back line. Literally a ‘last minute’ deadline day deal finally crawled over the line only ‘just in time’: It seemed the Irons were having trouble convincing Axel Disasi to sign on the line.
It is still baffling that the Hammers took so long to carry out arguably their most Important piece of business: Perhaps bids to bring in players on permanent deals had faltered, perhaps Nuno – as we were led to believe – simply couldn’t make up his mind on the targets and had a Moyes-like attack of the dithers.
Thankfully, however, Disasi arrived just in time and went straight into the side. And he’s remained there ever since. Called upon by Nuno again at the end of the FA Cup game to bolster West Ham’s ten-man rearguard action, Disasi adds solidity and strength and – for Premier League fixtures – is being preferred to fragile team mate Max Kilman.
Who knew: Many of us were fretting about the Frenchman’s lack of game time before he arrived, and yet he has obviously taken to life in the heart of the Hammers defence.
As Disasi confirms his contentment in a West Ham shirt, it surely condemns Kilman to twelve games sitting out this season’s Premier League campaign as a bit-part player despite his forty million price tag.
His is a transfer that has not worked out and one surely that will be undone in the summer if the Hammers survive.
Disasi was signed late in the window but has had a huge impact already
For loanee Disasi, early reports from within the club – via Carlton Cole, West Ham’s loans manager – reported by hammers.news – the feedback is clear: Axel Disasi is in a good place.
Cole on talksport speaking about Disasi: “He’s massively happy. So yeah, he’s up for it. He’s a proper soldier….He goes, you got to be like a soldier when you play these type of teams because they want to dismantle you. So he’s up for it.”
Whilst there’s no long term deal in the offing (Disasi is on a straight loan with no option to buy) the defender’s obvious stature and strength more than likely spells the end of Max Kilman as a Hammers starter this season.
Which will come as a relief to most who’ve experienced a sharp intake of breath when Kilman’s name is announced amongst the starters.
I think it may have taken a while because many were saying he wasn’t much good and over Chelsea they called him Disaster and the other rumour was he didn’t want to come to West Ham . So it was more a desperate purchase that seems to have come off. Both of these reasons seem way off the mark thankfully. Dawson mark 2 hopefully

Could do with Lopetegui to manage a rich club that needs to acquire Maxi Kilman.
