Conference quarter final draw – who we could meet

By Simon Leyland

Goals from Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen and the teenager Divin Mubama made it a perfect 10 wins out of 10 for the Hammers in the Europa Conference League.

We put our domestic struggles to one side to sweep past the Cypriot side AEK Larnaca 4-0 at the London Stadium, and 6-0 on aggregate, to reach the quarter-finals. Where we will meet one of the following:

Djurgarden (Sweden) 0 Lech Poznan (Poland) 3

Lech Poznan won 5-0 on aggregate

Sivasspor (Türkiye) 1 Fiorentina (Italy) 4

Fiorentina won 5-1 on aggregate

Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) 2 Basel 2 (Switzerland)

4-4 on aggregate. Basel won 4-1 on penalties

AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands) 2 Lazio (Italy) 1

AZ Alkmaar won 4-2 on aggregate

Nice (France) 3 Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova) 1

Nice won 4-1 on aggregate

Villarreal (Spain) 0 Anderlecht (Belgium) 1

Anderlecht won 2-1 on aggregate

Istanbul Basaksehir (Türkiye) 1 Gent (Belgium) 4

Gent won 5-2 on aggregate

It also appears that the mighty Irons are now favourites to win the competition at the not particularly rewarding odds of 5/2.

The draws for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be held at 1pm on Friday afternoon.

We will play the first and second legs of our last-eight tie on Thursday 13 and 20 April. Ties level after 180 minutes will go to extra time irrespective of the number of goals each team has scored at home and away.

If the teams still cannot be separated after the additional 30 minutes, the tie goes to a penalty shootout.

The eight teams will now be whittled down to two, who will contest the final at Prague’s Eden Aréna on 7 June 2023, where Vladamir Coufal will score his first goal for the club and we will bring the trophy home !
